The use of profiling is using a scientific method to come to a conclusion. Stereotyping is based on a combination, in all or in part, of experience, bias and prejudice.
Give true profiling to a racist cop and it will be used to justify abuse. In the hands of any honest cop it will save lives. It is a tool that can be used for good or bad.

there used to be a stereotype that Mexican's were lazy, I don't know if that's still around much these days but if there was anything ever further from the truth I don't know what it would be.
I suppose there may be some type of scientific way to use profiling as Bill mentioned, but generally the way it is used is something like black people sell drugs so let's hassle a bunch of black people til we find drug dealers, then they find a bunch of black drug dealers and say, "see, we told you black people are selling the drugs" and if there is anything less scientific than that, I don't know what it would be. -
Oh, and not to get back on topic or anything but I was thinking about your idea of developing a fair truck lease program a bit. I guess if anybody could pull that off it would be you Bill. But man, that's an uphill battle. If we accept from the get-go that most lease-purchase deals out there are scams to shift risk from the company to the driver maybe there is something to be said to just stating that from the get-go ? Or if we accept the idea that most lease purchases are meant to never give the driver ownership of the truck until it is basically worthless, maybe just state that and explain it's basically a truck rental program and they are going to have to exceed the average or tighten the belt on personal expenses significantly if they ever hope to truly own the truck ? I dunno, if you can pull it off you get another tip of the hat from me.

To me, a good lease purchase would be just that, good...meaning that the driver makes payments and truely gets to own the truck at the end of the term, like buying a car on a payment plan. The problem with most is the driver really doesn't get to pick the truck of HIS choosing, just get what they got, at the time. Now some companies have a lot of trucks at the time and they are all the same truck, basically. So, the driver would know that going in. But say, the driver was told; "we lease 04-10 Freighliner Centurys, or something to that effect. Than when they sign up, there is only a 2010 and the payments reflect that. "I wanted an 06 or older, so I wouldn't have DEF". Personally, I would wait until they had the year model I wanted. A lot of companies want to rush the driver when doing a lease purchase, to me thats a red flag. Why are they rushing the driver? Dont want him to look at a contract before he even shows up and what not. So, there are some lease purchase deals out there that aren't terriable and can be done but most are crap...peace

And I have never experienced hispanics that were lazy. I worked with 3 of them when I worked at KFC before I started trucking, and they were the hardest workers there, even while still learning English.
Anyways, a good selling point on the lease programs is that one would be able to book loads from anywhere - meaning one would not be tied down to only hauling Bill's direct freight for a certain % of what he chooses it to be, or by mileage - the lessee would ultimately be in control of his/her success.bullhaulerswife, BigBadBill, Bigdubber and 1 other person Thank this. -

Bill helps the newbie to get the bicycle, and helps him to ride it by supplying the training wheels which will help keep him upright until he's ready to take them off and ride on his own...
Bill's already existing business plan provides the platform, and Bill's organization assures a relatively high level of success for the new truck buyer/lessee, which in turn provides a comfort level to the financier, and this brings all parties together and seals the deal.
I think with a little bit of diligence in the screening process it works.
