Wrong....he came on a professional drivers web site and wanted sympathy and help , after breaking the most serious law a driver, especially a professional driver can make. He did not make a wrong decision, he made a very, very bad CHOICE...he knew before taking the 1st sip of alcohol that he would be driving and drinking...in no way shape or form should he think any of us whose families use the roads are gonna say its OK ....cause it Isn't OK , he is not a victim, he is getting exactly what he asked for and exactly what he deserves. If I decide to do the same thing then I'll deserve the same thing...CHOICES......thats what it all boils down to.....PERIOD.

Although I disagree with what you said earlier about him being DONE driving for good......the about is 100% true ....he made the wrong CHOICE...and will have to deal with his MULTIPLE bad choices he made that night.

still waiting to hear from you an example of a "real good company" and a "decent" company

One thing i want to know and i think I missed is ....

why did he refuse it in the first place if he knew he was guilty......

but it doesnt matter, he is out of driving for a few years, then , lets not forget not only do the companies look at the fact he has a DUI, but the refusal will be on his MVR too, and that will knock him back down with the companies...

Patty you are right as always, people cant expect to screw up and find a way out of it .... his father should have taught him better being he learned from his father about trucking. my son is goiing to be 18 april 1st and when he is old enough he is following me in trucking.... he has been told a million times how easy you can mess up a cdl and lose it and i did show him this thread as more of a teaching took as well ...

maybe this guy can learn from my son since he will be out of the truck and they BOTH will be getting in a truck right about the same time now.....

my son is going to graduate in may, then he is going into diesel mechanics school and do that until he is of age to drive ... then if he will always have the mechanics behind him if he would ever decide to be a owner operator he can do his own work ...

but bottom line is , this driver refused to take the test when he knew he was guilty, his father should have taught him the value of the CDL and even if he didnt , he seen how much money his father made and common sense to never drink and drive was installed in all of us while he were all still young kids .....

Guess some people just don't have a clue how serious this is.With ppl as forgiving as some on here is the reason why many reoffend over and over,in some cases and states, the law is just as forgiving.

After all the other comments that followed mine, do you think I was harsh? You'll get a second chance in 5-7 years once you complete any sanctions, or if you somehow get the DUI dismissed or dropped to an RD, once you get your CDL back in a year, you can probably get on with a bottom feeder dump truck or container company.

You place money way ahead of keeping people safe my friend...the company I retired from ( GSF ) would not hire you if you ever had any alcohol or drug related DWI's....just because those places pay well don't put them at the top of the food chain. An example IMO is a company that puts the public's safety 1st when hiring a driver, and that means they have policies in place that keep those who have proven to be unable to make the right choices out of their equipment. How do you think those folks (praxair or Sysco) who employ your friend or former co-worker would fare in court if those drivers have a fatal accident, once the fact that they hired a driver that had been convicted of a DUI/DWI..not too well I would wager.....the risk is too high, but that is just my opinion. I have no tolerance for any body that gets caught drinking and driving...ZERO , if that is wrong so be it.

The OP is no better than the 'professional' driver I saw at a T/S in Cali. He went in to pick-up his fuel receipt, came back out with a 'tall boy' which he proceeded to pour into a styrofoam 'soda' cup, put the lid & straw back on, and rolled out onto the road!!!

This thread ranks right up there with the one asking which companies do drug tests using hair follicles. The OP there wants to know how long her boyfriend has to stay 'clean' to pass so he can plan on when to quit before starting school.

Wouldn't it be nice if truck-stops were not allowed to sell alcohol.
