Motor c12 Serial# MBL02692. Turbo part # 10R1053
The intake turbine is now rubbing on the housing. And I'm looking to replace it but everyone is trying to say its a $1500+ turbo and I see several c12 turbos for much cheaper. I did go look and my truck does have this turbo on it currently.
Nobody I've called had any other option listed besides this turbo. He'll even a PDI turbo is cheaper and I can pick it up local but I don't think i can run that on a stock tune? They can't reflash my 40 pin there either.
so if anyone has any idea on what other turbo options I have that would be great.

Go to eBay and search c-12 turbo, there's a Borg Warner unit for $824 with free shipping. I had an 03' MBN I replaced the turbo with a Detroit unit that bolted right up, did have to fab up supply and pressure lines but it gave me 35lbs of boost : )
-
What do you mean by pressure lines? As in the stock wastegate lines will need to be modded for a pre mbl turbo?
-
Diesel Components in the Twin Cities carries Borg Warner turbos, they will even pre-drill for the oil lines to make the Detroit replacement a bolt on job. I currently have the 171702 on my C12 , but if I had it to do over again I would get the wastegated version. I dont thin I need all the extra cylinder pressure, as it isnt getting enough fuel to warrant any extra air. JMO

Unless you're willing to tune the ECM with an earlier C-12 file, you will have to bu a CAT turbo. Otherwise the electronic wastegate function will not work with any aftermarket turbo and you will have a fault code with a engine derate situation
If you're interested in tuning the ECM with a file that will allow an aftermarket turbo, PM as I can do this for you -
Awesome, do you have the wastegated version part #? So if I contact them they will know what I should use? Thanks

Good luck and I won't say I told you so later

So I can spend 2k to do a different turbo and earlier c12 tune and be down for maybe two days so ill be out 3k total.
or 2k for a replacement turbo and have it fixed in same day.
or a pdi turbo and tune for 3.5k and have that done local the same day.
i just don't know if having my truck down for a few days is worth it for me to ship out my ecm because ill lose at least $500 a day and I know if things arnt broken why fix them.
so I don't know if I want to add more power to my truck with a pdi tune because I don't know what it's going to effect down the road. My tans is only good for 1650trq.
so yeah I don't know exactly what to do, I hate buying stuff because I always think like this.
you shoulda saw me buy my last TV. Lolbbechtel16 Thanks this. -
Trust me I'm not going to jump the gun on anything till I know it's going to work.

If you do nothing with the ECM than you are stuck buying the CATERPILLAR Reman turbo for your engine serial number. To do anything else you have to tune the ECM. PDI has a Stage 1 tune that will make it run with any C-15 550, but will require a turbo upgrade to match the extra fuel.
I can tweak the ECM with an earlier file C-12 to achieve roughly 470 to 500 Hp and than you can buy the turbo listed earlier in this thread without any problems
the choices are yours. Remember that a MBL is a bridge engine and responds very well to earlier file with both Hp and fuel mileage gains, because injection timing will be advanced. You also have catalytic converters in your mufflers that should be removed at some time in the future to help fuel mileage alsobbechtel16 Thanks this.
