I traded my old equipmant for this new Styker 497..
So far i love this radio and have had 100's of complimants. One issue is that i have it up in my ''cubby''..It seems to get hot.I was thinking about drilling two holes and mounting the bracket on the bottom side of the cubby so it will possibly get more air flow...
Any ideas..

I don't think you will ever keep it cool in the cubby. Mounting it underneath will help for sure. It will probably still get warm if you are talking alot. Mounting a little fan up there will also help. Make sure SWR are as low as possible. High swr and heat are killers on these newer radios !!!
Please don't ask how I know this !!

I install 10mmx10mm fans on my big radios. And have no heat problems afterwards.

Be careful about hanging a radio from it's bracket. The vibration in a truck can shake one to death. Better to mount on the dash or in the "cubby hole".

If you mount the radio on the bottom side of the cubby, from a bracket. Use rubber washers both inside and on the outside of the mount as you insert the mounting screws through the bracket holes into the radio chassis.
You will have no problem with vibration. You can purchase these black rubber washers at larger truck stops, or at hardware stores.
