Why on earth would anyone pay a code 2 50%? The lessee takes all the risk, why should he not get the bigger reward?
on an unrelated note I'm coming up on 1 year here and starting to think about training. I keep flip flopping though. I enjoy helping people learn (did a lot of it with the fellow newbies when I was training) and the engorged checks would be great. On the other hand, less sleep, more stress, and a real fear of bad students ("it too fog") keep chasing me back away.
I had a bit of a health epiphany yesterday, and it's got me thinking more about my exit. I came in originally planing to stay 2 years, but started thinking about stayin out. I enjoy my job, and the money, but yesterday I became fully aware of just how much worse my health is out here after just 11 months. The extra savings from training would make that exit more graceful.
so all you trainers, what'da'ya think? Is the juice worth the squeeze? Would you still train if you didn't NEED the extra money?

I would still train, but then again I did not NEED the extra money. It is nice though. If you are only doung it for the money, don't train. Even good students get annoying, and unless you are getting a lot more miles your check won't be a lot bigger, because you take a 4cpm pay cut when you have a student on the truck.

Training, yes I would continue training but I don't need the money and only train 4 maybe 5 students a year. I really enjoy passing on my knowledge to others who are willing to learn. The checks can be good but then you have the excess mileage fees, extra wear on your equipment and added maintenance and tire cost. By the time you figure all that against the bottom line, training is something that you really only need to try if you enjoy passing it on. The key is to turn out quality, safe drivers not steering wheel holders. Most trainers that are in it for the money turn out rotten students but its not the students fault. I believe in giving each student their money's worth, and a fair shake.

Will somebody explain how the detention pay works?
-
Say you show up for a 3pm appt at 3pm...and you dont get loaded/unloaded right away and you sit there at the shipper/receiver for many hours. After an agreed upon amount of delay your company starts getting paid for you being detained. Your company then pays you part of that detention pay for your wasted time sitting in a dock. Doesnt always happen though. Has to be
agreed upon as part of the contract.Punky74 Thanks this. -
