So my husband worked for averitt express they had him do the sleep test which he failed and now has a clap and absolutely cannot sleep with that thing and its is causing him to hate truck driving more than anything just because they try to force you to use it... he quit averitt due to sitting and barely making checks and now looking into Crete and has an orientation date they've said they do the sleep tests and told him he will have to use his cpap machine so now he isn't wanting to go for it the reason we like Crete you see them everywhere and their rider policy they also pay more than most. But anyway he can't sleep with the dang thing and its been causing problems. He wakes up more tired than ever when using it never wants to do anything and he says it suffocates him. Is there a way out of this ? I mean they say if you stop breathing for ten seconds you need one the doctor refused to tell him how much he stopped breathing for yet told him the Guy next door stopped breathing for over two minutes? They also told him to sleep on his back which he can barely do cause its not comfortable and then told him that during the night he slept better on his side? Would a note from his regular doctor saying he does not need it work? Could he request to take it again maybe take a sleeping pill before hand? Also how the heck are you expected to sleep when you have tons of little things and wires stuck to you the whole time ?

as a cpap user who came into driving using it, I say tell your husband to give it a chance. I now sleep and get actual rest on a nightly basis while using it versus having my sleep interupted on average every two minutes. My blood oxygen level dipped to 78% before using cpap. The soreness for jerking awake all the time to breathe again has also stopped.

I was given copies of the results and your husband can get copies to, as this is a recognized medical test. As such has the right to them.

Beyond that, he can pay for an independent study to be done out of pocket. And fight to have those results used instead of a company sponsered study. I'm all for people that need it to use it, but the company sponsered stuff concerns me. As long as the center can show independence in it and arent trying to sell the machines after the fact then its a above board sleep study center.

He got copies of them and everything had said he slept better without the clap minus one or two subjects and he's been trying to sleep with it for two + months its still the same he can't get past a full hour with it. He says its OK at level 4 but as soon as it hits five its to much and wakes him up

When I took my sleep study, I was so bad off they actually had to put me on oxygen. Now I can't sleep without my cpap. My wife and daughter call me "coma boy" when I put it on.

as far as i know you cannot get away without taking the test if your neck size is 17 inches or larger and your body mass index is high, sorry don't know the actual number. the reason for the test involves the feds. the csa requires it if you fall in the range i mentioned. so no there is no way out of taking the test unless of course you go to some docter or company that don't care[fly by night deals]

I would also say it needs an adjustment. I was prescribed a CPAP several years ago. I needed mine set at 20, the highest/worst, and it worked OK. I didn't like sleepign with it 90% of the time. I went back in last year to get a new sleep study and got set down to 12, now I use it all the time and it helps A LOT. It is grat having it set where I actually need it to be. He may need to go back in to talk to the dr about whats going on with it all. Something isnt right. It does suck trying to go to sleep with the mask on, but believe me when he gets dialed in on it working for him it will be well worth it. I got my CPAP after I stopped driving, but as I am looking into driving again I am learning a little about driving and having it. I know that some companies will want a MWT (meaningfull wakeness test) along with the sleep study results. the MWT shows that you can be awake, alert, and can stay awake when you should. From what I have learned he would have to show that he is being compliant witht he use of the CPAP machine, which I believe is 4 hours a night minimum.

I tested two years ago and was diagnosed with severe apnea. I hated the idea of being connected to a hose while trying to sleep. Once the machine is set correctly for your needs, you will find it makes a big difference on the rest you get.

It may be the type of mask or headgear he is using. I know I had to try several different setups b4 I finally found one that worked for me. Also, is his machine equipped with the C-flex+ option? That will make a BIG difference on the back pressure when you exhale. If it is set correctly he will feel no resistance at all when breathing. A correct fit and machine setting is very important for the comfort level you may need. Don't give up, it will help him in the long run. I had my CPAP for two months then took it with me on the road. Had no issues at all except cleaning it regularly like you are supposed to.
