Hauling crude is the easiest job a truck driver can have.......
If you are working in the oilfield per se......
The hose is light. You have all the time in the world to not make a mistake...if you allow yourself the time to learn and acclimate to it!!
You can make a heck of a mess by not paying attention.
Hauling water instead of oil costs you money.
Thiefing the oil is important.
Heating the oil to 160 degrees for the grind-out is important.
Delivering a "merchantable load is the name of the game.
It is easy.
No rocket science involved.
oilfield the new adventure begins will keep you updated

One thing about the oilfield.
The only stupid question is the one you do not ask.
There is a lot to understand. You do not have to hurt yourself or others to reach the point of understanding.
After all.
It's not rocket science.superpet39 and Giggles the Original Thank this. -

The only part of the exemption anyone whom does not work specifically for a "Service Company", like Halliburton or Schlumberger, qualifies for is the 24 hour reset.
As a crude oil hauler C.B. gets to use that 24 hour reset.
The Hazardous Material regulations do not allow any driver in a day cab to log "Off Duty" except with a letter written by the company, detailing where and how long his "breaks" may be and when they can occur. There is a lot involved in where the truck can park, how long it can be parked, and where the driver must be while taking a break.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, Bumpy and BORNtoROAM Thank this. -

Well i am trucking school through a local community college up here (tution was only $400). Its an 11 week course where we drive 4 days a week and have 1 day of week for class. I have 1 speeding ticket and 1 at fault accident in the last 3 years.will it be hard for me to get a job in the oil patch or do you think i would get a driving job right away? Also what can i expect to make?
-
i got a job with a service company right out of driving school. i paid $4k for a 4-week course BTW. wtf???? you're getting a helluva deal. 11 weeks seems overkill though, especially considering the major service companies will probably send you through their own driver training regardless. i would stay away from the big name companies btw (halliburton, baker hughes, cudd for example)... they pay a fraction of what most the smaller more local companies pay. like Cudd will start their frac hands at 13 or 14/hr, and i know halliburton is pretty close to that. if you're not making over 20/hr doing frac, you are being straight taken advantage of. i started at 19 and now make 21/hr doing acidizing. fwiw
re: the log/hours discussion- i rarely, if ever, show more than say 10-20 hrs on duty for a typical week. but i work 70 hrs a week generally. this is driving an acid transport. all i log is driving hours, i dont put anything for our rigups/pump time etc, just mark it as off duty well site.. our guy who reviews our logs at the company says that's fine. i wonder if DOT would disagree though? i'm at least accurate with my drive time logs, and i make them look very neat. from what i've heard they usually only take a quick glance at your logbook if you're going through the scales. i've somehow avoided ever catching an open scale though so i dunno -
well im getting such a good deal because its kinda through the state at a community college tuttion is really $201 dollars then like another 200 for books insurence and a random test and driving background check. Do u think id have a problem with 1 speeding violation and an at fault accident where no one got hurt within the last 3 years. The accident was due to really bad weather conditions (icy roads). Also i have a criminal background (no felonies).

giggles what can i do to make $400 dollars in a day? how do i get to that point? what do i need to be applying for? and which compaines?
-
she's talking about hauling crude which you typically need 2-3 yrs experience to be considered, at least from the companies i've looked at. you can make 400 in a day easy doing frac, cement, acid, wireline etc of you're on overtime. i make 31/hr on overtime so if i put in a 14 hr day which is pretty typical when we're busy, do the math. plus we get $50 per diem
which isnt taxed. so i could potentially see a $4000 paycheck although i've never quite hit that mark. 3000 is probably avg when we have jobs every day, which we have been lately. it's going to get very busy this year
if i were you i'd look into companies that have a frac division. those guys bank it. if youcan handle 100 hr weeks and hard physical labor
dunno anything about you accident or misdemeanor. there are plenty felons out here drivin trucks though i know that much lolGiggles the Original and Bumpy Thank this.
