If they give you the advance, make sure you get a PO order # and a PO reference #. Get a receipt from the hotel. Grab a scan #### (one of the mentors should have showed you this by now) and write on the hotel receipt trip#, tractor#, your driver code, and the 2 PO #, and scan it. All that info will make it easier for you to get reimbursed (payroll is a little OCD about it. If at the end they dont reimburse you, keep the receipt anyway. It's tax deductible for you. Good luck Doc, keep pushin, your almost done.

GREAT THREAD- I suggest you take up writing in the future, as I intend to do, once I get into your shoes. I'll hopefully be in a similar situation as you within the next month. One thing I wonder, as a complete newb to the OTR scene, is why trainers are such jerks, when they sign up to train. Granted, you are in THEIR truck, but hey, they're getting paid extra to train and accommodate you. Stands to reason that a trainer, getting PAID to train, which involves sharing his truck, would make a reasonable provision for your belongings and personal needs (CPAP). I read here about countless students being given the equivalent of a shoebox to store EVERYTHING they bring with them. One would think that a spot check by a training manager to ensure that the student that they have thousands invested in would be taken care of better. I guess I'll soon find out. I'm a people person, so I'm being optimistic that I hook up with a good trainer right out of the gate. Keep up the good work.

As it turned out I pushed a little and he paid for it although griped and guilt tripped. He has more hometime coming up in 2 weeks and said that I was staying at his house this next time. I said no. At this point I'm trying not to mentally check out as I just want to get this done. He mentioned that he can suggest I test out early and I'm going to push for that while learning everything I can. Supposed to take my midterm tomorrow but my mentor avoids terminals like the pplague. Him and my student coordinator go back and forth about me taking the midterm because he feels its a waste of time with our schedule.

I'm not sure about the whole mentor thing. There are plenty of good ones out there but some bad too. The money seems
o entice some. K -

Stupid phone.
Plenty of good mentors out there. I think some people get into mentoring unprepared. I can only speculate. I know my current mentor was just telling me that he thinks I'm going to be his last student. I asked why and he stated it is just too much stress. When asked to elaborate he stated putting me up in the hotel for his hometime. Not really sure but everything stresses him to no end.
He is trying to keep me on the truck for up to another month and somewhat indirctly threatens me that even if I have my 240 done and my 40 backs he can keep me until he feels necessary to release me. What the #### ever. But let me get off this negative tip for now because I love this job regardless and know this will end soon enough.
Keep up.the positive attitude. It helps tons. Thanks for following along.Last edited: Mar 14, 2013
