Entering my second week in a school that I won't mention the name; but, it's in Richmond, Va, starts with an "S" and ends with a "T". Started out pretty cool then the downhill begins. Showed up last week, my roommate didn't show up to start school. Oh well, no worries, more room for me. Got moved from the 4th floor to the 1st floor after the school found out I was living solo. Once again, no worries, got roomed with a guy from class that I'm cool with. Now, 2nd week, we both get split up, shuttled back up to the 4th floor, me to the same room I was originally in to room with 2 first weekers and sleep on a cot. Yeah, a frickin' cot. We signed a contract for $500 for housing that states you will have only 1 roommate and then they go back on their own contract after you're locked in on having to reimburse them. Now, there are 3 grown ### men living in a small hotel room, trying to pack a fridge to live on for the time we're here, juggling cook times, shower time and bathroom time.
I know quarters will be tight once with a mentor but that's to be expected and not lied to in a legally binding contract. Gonna have to suck it for a week and a half, just wanted to give folks a heads up that things will change in a blink of an eye so stay flexible.
Careful where you go.

Hang in there man, it's only temporary. Still sucks, though.
mje Thanks this. -
Hate to say get used to it, but A LOT of carriers out there will take advantage of you any way they can as long as it makes them money, espcaly if you are OTR. That includes running you hard, or worse making you sit and make no money, losuy dirty smelly breakdown truck, slip seating, talking down to you, treating you like a dog. If you are hauling freight, get used to waiting to load or unload for little or no money, running deadhead miles for the same, not seeing home much, missing holidays.
Not trying to give you a hard time here but set your expectations, drivers in a lot of cases are treated very poorly. It's a shame but with the economy the way it is, they can get away with it.
There are good companies out there and if you are not happy do not leave, stick it out 6-12 mos and go somewhere else with experience, or else you will start all over. If you can drive local or specialzed (tanker, autos, pedailing (like Sysco) you will get home more, be beter paid and better treatment.
Best of Luck -
Yeah Crossroads, I hear ya'. Just wanted to give people something to expect. Was mad at first but cooled off a bit and sucked it up. There's good and bad companies out there and we all have to start somewhere. I'm gonna stick it out though, got people at the home front counting on me.
mje and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
If you REALLY wanted to help people and you are telling THE TRUTH then please post the name of the school; by playing little school girl games of "it starts with this ends with this" crap, man up and post the name of the school or dont even post at all as your (lack of) info has done nothing..............mje, RAGE 18 and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Losttrucker came out swinging like the natural Randy Coutur daaaaang first round knockout. But yea shed527 you can post the name of the school so other people can benefit from the info. Im just really glad my career didnt start out like that. Peace!
mje, losttrucker and Shed527 Thank this. -
Just got interesting today and really don't care anymore. Swift is the school and I don't even get a cot now, it'll be a recliner or the floor. So I'm paying $500 to sleep in my car in the parking lot b/c it's more comfortable than my options.
mje Thanks this. -
Are you referring to Swift whose headquarters are out of Phoenix Arizona?
Please advise
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!RAGE 18 Thanks this. -
