Just got a call from dispatch. They say I'm going to destination X with 7 units .... can I stop in area Y to pick up a 1996 Rolls Spur ? Sure, I say. What time they say ? Huh - Oh !! .... 0500 I say. Good, they say ... the customer/shipper will meet you at 0500 because it may not start !! Hhhhhmmmm.
If a shipper is ready to meet me at 0-dark-hundred then that says somethin' about the p/u ...... high end or not .... I got goose bumps. If it needs R+R to get on ..... what's it need to get off ?
Man, I hate palyin' this game.
I hope this thing is not a serious piece of crap, especially if I'm doing the P/U at 0500 in the dark ...
Obviously I'll strap it ..... any other Rolls advice for me .... for a used '96 ? As I recall it has about the same WB as a Crown Vic/Town Car (unless it's been 'corporately' streched) .... It's going to go on the back bottom of an open Cottrell Quick Loader.
Any tips etc would be appreciated ..... you have about 11 hours before I gotta go ..... tks in advance ....

Awww...sling a couple chains around it and hammer down. There was only about 500 of that 4th generation Spur built in the world. That should make you feel more comfortable about handling it.
Speedloader Thanks this. -
Yeah - I'm real warm and fuzzy now .......... Doesn't matter if it's an expensive piece of caa caa - or a cheap piece of caa caa ..... caa caa is still caa caa ........ !Drac1985 Thanks this.

How the haul go?
-
It didn't yet .... I went to the rail head to load, but only 1 of the first 7 was pulled. So I came back home. Good thing I only live about 10 min from the terminal. I'll nap on the couch until dispatch calls me.

Done - and don't want another for quite some time. It was a '96 Silver Dawn. No gas. No battery. Had to boost off the alternator 3 times just to get it on the back bottom deck. Tires were just on said deck. Had to 'experiment' to find hook holes for the straps. Had to readjust the other 2 in the belly so I could pull that aircraft carrier into the trailer far enuf so I would be legal AND I wouldn't drag off the cars bumper. So that was loading ......
4 hours later I call the guy that bought it. Per instruction I called when I was 1/2 hour away from him. I got there, undid the straps, pulled the ramps, raised the decks etc etc AND still waited for 45 more minutes .... then the fun begins .... It wouldn't boost off AT ALL. I finally had to coast it off with gravity. Touchy move isn't guys, when you need the deck up to move the car off far enuf from the truck BUT you don't want to catch the bumpers on the way off. Anyway, nice ol Irish guy ... he was late because he 'and the lads' stopped to pick me up a cigar, coffee and a sandwich on their way over.... Not often I get tipped like that !! Either way, twas a long night. Man those Rolls are heavy units ! -
Reminds me of a favor for a freind of one of our VP's one time. P/U a 1959 Peugeot from an airstrip in Douglas, AZ and move to Los Angeles. The pile of crap barely ran enough to load it. Moved it back to PHX and put it on a LA bound truck. It had no interior and was full of junk. Delivered to LA, the friend of the VP claimed we bent the piece of ##### and it was some kind of rare Peugeot. We wound up paying the guy $6000...for a favor to a VP's friend. And, WE did not bend the hunk of junk.

Let me guess - there was a memo circulated shortly after that poo pooing all future favors ..........

HAHAHAHAHA
Exactly! -
I dont like hauling real high dollar cars 1 scratch cost to much.'
But I was told long time ago to treat them all the same and you"ll have no problems.
Prob the worst thing I seen happen was a Ferrari someone loaded on the fifth wheel...... lol of a open truck then forgot to pin the front of the number 2 deck well..... you can imagine from there it had bottom and top damage.
It was Orlando Auction years ago
