I have been driving for 17 yrs. I have always been OTR and lately things have changed for me that I need to do regional work to be home on weekends. Here is my dilema .....

US Xpress - 40 cpm, home every weekend running the northeast. They also allow inverters if their own people install them. ----- No problem with having them install them.

Heartland express - 44 cpm, home every weekend running the northeast. They don't allow any inverters at this time in any way. But things could change within a few months.

Barr Nunn - 48 cpm home every weekend running the northeast. They allow inverters that are NOT hooked up to the battery. and there is NO new york city ( the no nyc for me is a HUGE bonus, been there, done that) .....

My problem is , who do I trust. who will give me enough miles to run the northeast that I will gross approx 900 or more.

I have been told that heartland does a salary pay, I called them today and was told NO, they wont do that unless I live near the terminal. Nevermind the fact that I live just outside of allentown pa where alot of freight gets brought in and shipped out from many carriers. But they wont do the salary pay of 1,000 for me.

I have heard too many horror stories on here with people about the companies. I have also realized that not only are there 2 sides to every situation, i also take in the fact of when the posts are written. Some a few years back, some recent. I also look at why they left and how things may not have just been the companies fault but the fault of the driver....

    THEN........

I see people on here who are respected by me on this forum. They have been on this forum for almost as long as I have been and I read their posts and responces about their company. And the 2 most people I respect on here and value their opinion just happen to work for USX and Heartland .... what a bind that is for me ....

I would like to hear from anyone who is currently running the northeast for either 3 of these companies and tell me what you think. Could I gross 900 a week and home weekends .... Will the miles be there .. will the pay be there ... i cant say the recruiters are lying to me sue to the fact that the 2 gentleman stated earlier have been with their companies for a few yrs and they gave me their opinions on what they see when it comes to their own company and neither said anything negative about the others company, which in my eyes is extremely respectful, they stated on what they know only... they are to be thanked and commended for that... that is one of the reasons why i respect them as much as i do ....

so that is ol bubba's situation. Any advise would be appreciated and will be thought of alot since this has been giving me migrain headaches not to mention what headache i have been giving my wife about this. SHe said she would rather hear me play all my guitars instead of hearing about this decision 12 hrs a day....

Thanks in advance for any info you may have......

Here's the dilly. We apparently don't live far from each other, so I know your pain. I'm OTR because I need to get the hell away from the NE sometimes. Lol. I've talked to everyone of these companies and not one of them are worth anything. That's the straight truth. Look into Calex, or Ward's or Central Pennsylvania truck lines. Running with a major carrier like them will give you nothing but headaches. Sure, they pay .44 cpm but you're never going to run over 1500 miles a week. Every single driver I talked to says the same thing. Big CPM means nothing if you don't have the work to run with it. Barr Nunn runs out of DCS in Fogelsville, and I used to work there. Those guys weren't getting any miles. Heartland is notorious for leaving guys sit in Maine or Mass because of lack of work. Look at the smaller NE based carriers. Leave the big names for the new drivers. You'll be better off.

A Duie Pyle? Just saw an ad for them on Craigslist. Averitt??? and if you want more local work then go hook up with a gas tanker outfit. usually about $20 to $25 per hr and home every day. Dont know where you are in PA exactly but Im sure theres a bunch of local and semi regional work to be had there.

Well as Montgomery Brewster once said "None of the Above" I would think with 17 yrs and a Clean record you can do better than the. 3 you listed. But good luck to you in your search.
