You don't "just" go the distance without a preventable. You work. You earn the award. You stay out of situations that could lead to accidents or incidents. You use your brakes when others are too slow or stupid or drunk/stoned/inattentive to use theirs. You don't bump anything but docks. In a word, you are careful, because there is no shortage of idiots out there. If someone hits you--say a guy creams your truck while you're in the sleeper--that doesn't count against your safe miles, nor does a scale ticket.
I saw this on the back of a trailer: A professional driver is one who stays out of trouble and helps his fellow drivers to do the same.
I don't know if the OP really thinks Million Milers aren't a big deal or if he's kidding around. I do know that it felt very good to hit the mark, and even better when I put "One million miles--no accident, no incident" in custom lettering on my doors. -
LOL now that's funny.

Someone needs to tell the OP it's not a million safe miles....it's a million in a row. Starting over is a bugger.

I know of drivers that have 280,000 safe miles....IN REVERSE!
joseph1135, kerosene jockey, Tonythetruckerdude and 2 others Thank this. -
OK well when add million "safe" miles or million miles without a citation yes those are big deals. Just having a million miles isn't as impressive as they make it out to be though. Then again, a lot of people quit after a year since they want to go home to mommy.
JohnBoy Thanks this. -
All depends on how hard you run and if you establish yourself as someone who gets the job done and can be depended on. It's possible......but not the norm. he could be telling the truth but for 90% of us out here at 2 years I'd agree with you.
I've got 21 months in and at 230,598 as of parking today. Home most weekends. With an elog. But I push that electronic babysitter down to the last minute every single day that I'm on a trip that I can.
One minor incident in the first 6 months but accident, incident, ticket free since and plan on staying that way but back up over 100k safe now. I agree better than 100k safe is hard with all the morons on the road and especially if you run NE as much as I do with some of the tight places you have to get in and out of up there.
The million milers have my respect....the safe million milers are ####### awesome. I see it as a badge of honor and something earned and to be proud of. With any luck, I'll be one too.kerosene jockey and JohnBoy Thank this. -
Newnashguy your intent or wording came out all jacked up on your original post. Anybody can do a million but not anybody can do it safe. A ###### can do a million with 3 cars hit and countless mirrors taken out. U need to think about what your talking about before posting. Anyway your 250k dont impress nobody besides your math is wrong unless ur referring to kilometers so essentially u got 160 to 180k miles get it right dawg.

I am going to take a different approach here.In many ways he is ''right''.How many times have you seen a driver that has been driving for 30+ years.He/She has a perfect record and all the endorsements.He/She may have even worked for a company for 20+ years too. They meet every Qualifacation for a ''great driver''...
Then the company they are with goes under. So they are forced to go find a drivers job. They show the recruiter all the credentials and the recruiter says ''Sorry'' we can't use you.We need 3 years verfiable OTR...What a kick in the balls. The driver says, well i have been running the Northeast and all the states up there.Recruiter says ''Sorry'' we need 3 + years verifiable OTR..
So much for all that hard work, dedication and Safe Millions...A true kick in the balls.I see this alot with the old timers i know up here..
I am afraid to say it.But i am convinced they want the ''new'' drivers.I am convinced they make more money with the forever Manipulation on the new drivers. In many ways the ''millions'' do not mean much anymore. In the old days it meant alot..truckon Thanks this.
