Well I would submit that if you are getting paid due to someone else's labor as you stated, then they are surely getting screwed in my book.

I wonder how much the average driver pay for Roehl would be if the large numbers of trainers Roehl has was left out of the equation.

The advertisements I see with the high pay they claim to have does not jibe with the large training fleet they employ.

Logic would suggest that such high pay and excellent working conditions as claimed would not need such a large staff of trainers and newbies and the turnover should be much less at such a dream job.

I have said it before and will say it again. A trainer coming here and telling us they never sat and everything was peachy while great to hear, it can not be compared to the average solo driver. Because some of that success was at the expense of the regular solo driver who is the low truck on the totem pole at carriers with training trucks, teams, lease drivers.

I have ran Team and have trained drivers and comparing treatment while in those fleets with being a solo driver would never be something I would espouse to, because it would be a disingenuous comparison to say the least.

What is a large staff of trainers?

I don't think anyone claimed it was a dream job. I guess everyone out of CDL school should start at 50 cpm. There is turnover because this OTR. It is the nature of the beast. Most people can not handle being away from home for that long. Honestly, if you had a decent sized trucking company would you want all your drivers making over 40 cpm? I doubt it, it would make sense to have some newbies making less. I wouldn't want a whole fleet of newbies either. Once upon a time I was that student making his trainer money. I paid my dues and worked my way up. Now I get to reap some of the reward.

I smell someone that tried to get on with Roehl and they turned him down.

Just wondering who maybe go'n to Roehl # end of Feb. for training:biggrin_255:around the 18th or the 25th. Who knows which hotel to book into up in Marshfield or does Rob set that up for you. Thanks. I just want to get everything ready, and not # the last minute.

    Thunder,

Dont worry about setting up and booking your room. Rob will take care of that for you. Just stay in constant contact with Rob. DO NOT for get to bring your birth certificate/passport, your medical certificate and long form! Your birth certificate must be the original with the perforated seal on it. And obviously, dont forget to bring your class A cdl permit. You better pack the warmest clothes you have. You'll be spending a couple hours per day out in the cold. Gloves, scarf and hat will be very important for your comfort. In addition to gloves, scarf and hat I wore jeans, shirt and 3 sweatshirts and a heavy jacket. I managed just fine with that. I wore sneakers, but work boots might have kept my feet warmer. If you really like your feet warm, then look into getting some electric socks. If you have them, you'll use them. I finished up there about a week before Christmas, and the average temp then was about 18-20 degrees with a few days with temps fluctuating between -10 to 14 degrees between the highs and lows. I've already been out for 8 days of my Evo 1 and am due to get back out this Sunday. I would have gone right back out the next day to finish evo 1, but got strep throat and had to take a couple days off to keep my trainer from getting it. We actually finished 8 days with about 3200 miles for the week. Not bad considering we had a couple off days due to the holiday slow down. Good luck to you. As an experienced driver, and having gone thru Roehls training, I have to say that their training is top notch. You'll be challenged. You will repeat everything over and over in the class and in the truck to where you will be more than comfortable and totally prepared when it comes time to take your test. Dont worry about that if you were. Tell Brian Darin said hello. Oh, by the way, you will be in class from about 7:15am to about 5pm Mon-Fri. You will be on the road course practicing your skills on Saturdays. Saturday is flexible as far as how long you should stay. If you think you have your backing, shifting, downshifting down then you could leave a little earlier. If you are not experienced, then I would suggest you stay all day on Saturday. Keep a positive attitude and be willing to learn. That is part of what they are looking at when you are in class. Remember... 1 out of 9 people that apply are accepted. So you are already doing better than the 8 others that got turned down. Just to tell you how much safety IS their cornerstone, We could have gotten back on the road on New Years day at about 5:30pm but due to icy weather we told dispatch we were not going back out and would leave in the morning and they had absolutely no problems with us making that decision. There was no flack at all for our decision. Safety IS their highest value. Good luck, and let us all know how things go.

You will make more money through out the year if you do national and stay out 3-4 weeks. You will make more money per day worked on 7/3 7/4 and be home more often and have a set schedule. You have to live by a terminal to do 7/3 7/4. I am not sure if they offer that out of the new Jax yd. I know they do out of Ellenwood (Atlanta). That would probably be too far away. You might be stuck with national.

I have taken a votech class when I was HS. and learned the 18 wheeler. This was about 17 yrs. ago. So I am asuming it would all come back to me, eventhough I never driven on the road.
