Three years, and you simply have to verify what you did in that time. It's not like there's a law that says you can't be hired if you haven't worked for the last three years straight. I definitely hadn't when I started driving.
Some people here have had to provide comapnies usually three letters from people stating that they knew that you were running your own business and what not. Might be something you need to do.
Returning driver needs advice on work history. I need to get HIRED!!!

Butler Transport out of KC, KS might hire you on. They are a reefer company but beggars can't be choosers, right? They hired me when I was looking to get back in the industry and I'm grateful for that. I gave them a year then I was off to greener pastures. I still get mail from them asking me to come back, haven't burned that bridge because you never know...

Well, I'm finding out rather quickly that it seems to be a formality, and it doesn't matter so much WHAT you were doing (depending on the company, of course) as that you have it documented accurately. This is one of those Orwellian things that they must do to stay in compliance with the law. I've been receiving pre-hires at everywhere I apply, so it may turn out good in the end, God willing
