WOW! What an amazing insightful comment. Your business acumen appears to be second to none. I am sure that your comments are based upon hours....nay years I am sure ... of incredible in-depth study.
Please do me a favor, send me a message with related spreadsheets that you have compiled detailing the cost / benefit ratio of leasing vs not leasing. When doing so, please allow for the lease term, the balloon payment after the lease is up. Don't forget to factor in the estimated 6 years of income that the truck will produce after it is your with no payment. Now I am sure that someone with your wealth of knowledge knows that a 4- 7 year old truck will cost more to maintain than new truck (for example 1 year old truck about $.03 per mile vs. $$.09 per mile for a 7 year old truck) so please ensure that your numbers are up to date and correct with the average fuel surcharge over the last 2 years as well.
Because these are all things that I have done before making a critical decision in my life. I would like to see how your spreadsheets differ from mine....
Or are you perhaps, just talking out of your ### like so many in our chosen profession choose to do? Just because you lack the balls to put it all on the line doesn't mean that everyone does.
Anybody else waiting for a lease truck?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Think about this, if owning a truck is such great money , why do carriers want lease drivers, why not just run all company trucks?
crb and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
Great question!!!...

Yeah. I'd like to know too.

Oh , you can bet we'll watch your progress as a L/O and learn how profitable it is . But first learn to read . Start with the message at the top of the forum highlighted in yellow about skirting the filters . I'd hate to see you banned and be unable to follow your progress .crb and Raiderfanatic Thank this.

Popeye- you make some great points. Please share with us your spreadsheets and cost/profit analysis as I struggle with the whole lease op scenario. Obviously I'm not informed or missing something.

L/O profitable ? Only for the very few.......Why do that when you can be a company driver and make as much ? That makes no sense to me....Most that I have met bring home $1000 a week after expenses.. And that's not every week.... To me that's not enough money for all the stress and crap. I do that as a company driver... But the trucks are nice and shiny !!!!!
crb Thanks this. -
Because over the years drivers have complained that it is a much needed benefit that is needed to retain drivers. No companies used to do it and they found themselves losing drivers to smaller companies that would.
You do realize that almost all of the multi million dollar company lease their trucks. In the tax situation that exists today leasing equipment provides numerous tax benefits over purchase. If you doubt me.... talk to a CPA or do a Google search. -
Again, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with wanting to be a company man. Some people are thinking longer term... During the early stages of a lease, it isn't about the money.... it's about the plan. After the truck is own free and clear it is about freedom over the direction of your life, etc.
It has nothing to do with shiny trucks .it has to do with long term planning for a better life.
Of course it isn't for everyone, just don't be a **** when something wants something that you obviously don't want or understand the reason for the want,,Last edited by a moderator: Mar 17, 2013
