I've been driving now for about 20 years, most without a license, but the last year with a class a..I have reached a point where I'm not sure what direction to go into and would like some advice. I have a bad knee and its hard for me to get in and out of a trailer to put in load locks/straps so I've been running team. I tried the solo thing and it didn't work and have spent the last 3 weeks trying to figure out what to do.. Are there any good reputable companies out there that do not require a physical agility test to get hired??? I can get into a trailer with accomadations such as a step stool but some of the companies I've contacted don't seem to like that idea..but yet I don't want to give up trucking because I can still drive and shifting doesn't bother my leg at all..can someone please give me ideas on what to do??? thanks
What to do? Problems with physical agility test

I have no answers as far as who will hire you however have you considered a Cortisone shot in your knee? I have SEVERE joint damage to 3 fingers in my rt. hand due to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. After getting cortisone injected into the knucles, days later i am Pain free and as mobile as ever

Check some drop & hook companies such as LandAir and Comtrak.
Watkins & Shepard has a carpet hauling contract, maybe Dalton, GA. Carpet is loaded with a forklift and unloaded with a forklift; the driver just opens or closes the trailer doors.
Check with some intermodal/drayage companies; drop & hook container work.
Here's a small team outfit you can check with.

dmhughes09 and pattyj Thank this. -
Do you have any trouble getting in and out of the trk?Alot of companies are drop and hook. But that does'nt mean you still wont have to hop in trl to secure load. Some loads are at the dock.I think all companies require a physical test before receiveing the med card. They wanna make sure you're in tip top shape to get in and out of trk as well as trailer.I have a few questions if ya don't mind,is or did teaming end?You say you tried the solo thing and didnt work out,so what makes you think its going to work out now or do you plan on teaming? How did you get you last med card without a physical test?
mje Thanks this. -
maybe look at some container outfits almost all drop and hook.

or a small local company.

Would a small ladder be of assistance? I know of a few drivers I've seen get out a small ladder to get inside the trailer.

I don't think she's talking about the D.O.T. Medical but the "Duck Walking" under the trailer and other stuff some of the big box carriers do on their own.
I can't speak for the U.S. division of Transx but I heard that a guy that I used to work with is now with their Canadian division and they bought him a truck with an automatic transmission after he had a leg amputated. -
I have never been given a physical agility test.
