Hello all, I recently joined a gym 2 weeks ago. In the past 2 years, my knees and back are gradually going south. My knees pop and crack and hurt when I squat. After laying down, my back is stiff. So I told myself "I've gotta do something" so I joined a gym. I'm about 6'0 and weigh 215. My goal is 180. I haven't lost any weight but I'm toning muscle and riding the bike 2 miles after my lifting. I'm currently going to the gym every night and I'm enjoying it.

It would be nice to have gyms at all major truck stops.... keep alot of truckers fit and healthy.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
What kind of lifting program are you doing?
-
Not really a "program" but I just have a routine I always do.

I curl 60lbs 25X's on a machine (dont know the technical term for it) then I go do legs until my arms regain strength then I go do arms again.

The "Rolling Strong" initiative between Pilot/Flying J and Snap fitness sounded great... but I have yet to see but 1 gym at any PFJ, which is in Dallas. They tout that you can go to any of the Snap gyms.. but their locator is terrible when out on the road.. and even then i've seen some shopping centers their in have "No Truck Parking" signs up as well. I've written them asking for a GPS POI for those like us to better find them but I never received a response. I created an Anytime fitness POI on my own but they have contracts.. and I won't do a contract. I wish 24hour fitness catered to us... I loved them back when I worked out regularly for 8 years.
I'm getting a fair workout myself tho via the flatbed work I do. I try to do things the difficult way just to get somewhat of a workout.. but its worked so far.. even with the malt and barley beverages I enjoy oh so much i'm still maintaining between 168 and 177 at 5'10". I don't know if I could honestly handle a full workout at the end of the day... but i'm sure willing to try. I really miss how I felt after a hard workout. When you can barely lift your arms to wash your hair right after a workout... you maxed out!SheepDog Thanks this. -
I'm wonderin..Are you Otr,Regional or local? If one of the 1st two-which gym have you joined? I am a member of Snap Fitness as I have found them to be the most numerous in the lower 48. IMO. Drawback: No sauna...Which I could use at this stage of the game..

Give it time, you will feel better soon. Take walks, bring a water bottle with you weight will come off eventually. The only way this profession will get you out of decent shape is if you let it. Good deal on joining a gym.

I miss working out and running but, not too much a trucker can do out on the road. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot we can do, just not a lot of different tasks. Running, push-ups, pull-ups, some dumb-bell's and some straps. You can get a good work out with all that I mentioned, the hard part is finding the time. That is another reason I want to get back into flat bedding Now that being said, in order to get a real work out, every day you actually work out, than you have to change it up every 2 or 3 weeks. The body adapts to everything and just doing flatbed stuff will turn into "normal" for the body, after a short while. Another thing that is a must, watching your calorie intake. Its simple math; X amount in = weight gain/loss or neither. Don't matter how much or hard you work out, if you take in more than you expend,,your going to gain weight. Also, must take in "energy replenishment" calories like Gatorade.

How do you find time for a gym, not to mention...location?
