So you're saying rates are low in the winter and get better in the spring? Fascinating insight!

In less than a month charcoal will be a commodity to watch for hauling.

Also could be Home Depot, Lowe's or other box stores since some deliveries are out of the DS lanes and they get you suckered into doing LTL.

Big problem is once it is on your trailer you are at the mercy of idiots, doing that type of run would require some hard black and white rules with monetary compensation for delays on the receivers end.

Better than being a pessimist. Then again could be worse you could be a realist and have everybody hate you for it. For what its worth though rates do seem to be coming back up I suppose. Forgot about the hastings, NE to austin, TX yesterday. 2 months ago it was 1250 and the broker said I'm not even calling the customer if you're at 1750. Yesterday it was 1500 and i got a "let me call them and see if it'll work.". Could be good news...god i hope its good news.

Lol yea it is getting closer just need to get them back around the 2.50/mile range when fuel is 3.50/gallon. My big concern after the rates get better is fuel sky rocketing. And true long as the family is happy who cares...otta keep the dispatcher happy though pissing them off is like driving a nail in the coffin...still waiting to pickup a load and read California on the bol bc i pissed my dispatcher off lol.

having been out of the game for several weeks doing other things, I was satisfied things have improved based on one days results. One was willing to do my price but I didn't have a contract in place with them and didn't want to hassle with it because I didn't have my computer with me. I hammered TQL with a high rate, but found a better load while they were checking with the customer. I actually felt a little bad for the TQL guy when he called back saying he got the rate and I had to tell him he snoozed and loozed. A month ago I certainly was spending more time in better areas and pulling teeth to get over $2/mile with a van. I think it's picking up volume and rates.

In response to AWIRON's post, I picked up a load last week of Kingsford Charcoal. It was classified as as a high value load. I told my dispatcher that I never considered charcoal as a high value, but sure would like a pallet of it.

I just hauled a load of charcoal out of the boot hill in Mo back to New York...CHR has this wrapped up too..The best i got was 2.20 and it was 33,000 lbs..I had to pull teeth to get the Landstar Agent to push and push for more..

I am sure CHR is getting it for 3.00 a mile..:biggrin_25516:
