Why didn't you document this and report it to the DOT KH?
The only way this stuff will stop....Is for good drivers to speak up....
There is no excuse or reason for any driver to run illegal or, run with equipment that would not pass a Roadside Inspection!!!!!

My reasons where I wanted something with more income and be home daily. Also got tired of all the b.s dot rules and rude dispatchers and being rush to deliver on time etc.Sometimes you need to take a brake or change careers if your not happy what you are doing, don't get me wrong,I love driving and seeing our country but with FMSCA rules making trucking harder and harder its was time for me to look into something else.

I think a good question might have been - how long were you employeed at your previous carrier? Less than 3 months 4 months to a year, 1-2 yrs, 3-4 yrs, 5+ yrs. Just useless info I suppose but might be interesting

I left my last driving job and the industry entirely due to the fact my last driving boss pressured hauling overweight, running around scales, and using chancy equipment...and on top of that, payed slave wages.

Great poll!! Am looking forward to seeing the results and would LOVE to hear / read the broadcast that you're going to present to your audience!

Took the poll, left my last job cause of a stroke, so used the job before that. Coming back OTR this year though because I do miss it so.

We are ruled by the Hours of Service 24/7/365 like a chained criminal because someone figured out we need only 10 hours off after working 14 hours on ... and to add insult to injury, some companies only pay for time driving, which results in some drivers working 12-14 hours on duty, and getting paid for 8-10 hours of driving. Some drivers are only looking at the money...sure a 1100.00 check looks real good, but divide that by the actual hours worked, ie 7 x 14 = 98 less 1 hour off for lunch= 91 hours being responsible for all that goes into being a driver. Does working for $12.00 sound about right? Do the math, cause time equals money.
Note: even though the log reflects off duty or in the sleeper during loading and unloading that is where cheating helps drivers fudge the log and gain more time driving, which means your working regardless and still responsible and accountable for the count and condition of the load.
If "Money" was the only reason for doing this job, then you should re-evaluate your priorities (there are other ways to earn a living). OTR Driving is a lifestyle, not just a job! -
I took the survey. The company I just left was seasonal, and paid pretty good for Iowa. I drove a dump truck. That kind of money can't compare to oilfield money, though, which is why I just let my boss know I was staying in ND. I wish there was a "other" option where I could explain in the survey, because I don't feel I was really low paid, they just can't match what you can make if you are willing to put up with ND.

Can't complete the survey.
Should have a choice called "other" with a place to explain.
Not everyone works for a bad company and there are many other reasons to leave a company other than what's listed.Mrgreen09 Thanks this.
