If you were able to get it out with a fire extinguisher, then you had to have caught it when it was very small. I've had to fight more than my share of hay fires, both in stacks and on trucks. Hay is not an easy put out, and you usually don't get it all out, until you get it separated.

And the hay truck fires I've been to ALL were caused by the trucker himself, flipping out a cigarette.:biggrin_25523: But then there were a whole lot of idiot hay truck drivers coming out of the Imperial Valley. . .:biggrin_25513:

I had attractor burn up on me on the pa pike right as soon as I got on by valley forge. I got out ran to the call box made te emergency call to turnpike. This was before I had a cell phone. When the troopers got there they let me use his phone to call the company. They asked me if I dropped the trailer. I was like really?

Two quick things: Hay has been known to spontaneously combust without any flame or spark. Two, please (if you do care enough to operate one) keep your CB on enough for someone to warn you that your trailer (or tractor, I've personally witnessed it) is on fire. Thank you!

Yep. Even more common when the hay is insured and moldy. We used to call it "Jewish Lightening.":biggrin_2559:

The driver was last seen walking down the interstate wearing sweats and flip flops. He had his overnight bag on one arm and Betty the blowup doll under the other! His two worthy possessions! :)
