I live in Philly and have 16 mos experience driving. Started looking a couple months ago for something local, and almost all want at least a year experience. You might want to look at a very small operation who wants a local driver on short notice, but I think you might have a hard time finding something decent without a year experience. My best advice is to spend a year on the road and keep a clean record, then you will have more options. Experience is key as a driver, it seems. Sorry I couldn't help more, good luck.

    Check Careerbuilder website.
Food service companies, grocery warehouses, produce warehouses.
Ignore "experience required" and apply anyway; that's the way many new drivers snag good jobs.
Check companies with logistics divisions such as Schneider or Greatwide or Western Express or Prime and see if they have any dedicated accounts near you. These accounts sometimes are on the company websites or you may need to make a phone call & email.

Craig's List is a good source for local gigs, a lot of small companies advertise there.

Yeah you will have to cut your teeth doing some regional/OTR.

You could luck into something but doubt it in your area.

    Good Luck!

Hit the road for a year, then get a local job. As I mentioned on other post it is nearly impossible for small companies that don't self insure to get insurance for a drover with less then1 years experience,

If you have at least 6 months with a carrier you could look into Smith Transport. You would not likely be home every night but you could possibly stay in general area. Also if you stick it out for a year or 2 you can almost get hired for any local company with opening.

A friend of mine went to work for Roehl but really wanted local work. He hadn't been there 6 mos, probably more like 4, and he road tested for a Mushroom Co in either Kennett Sq or Avondale, for a regional gig. He got the job, but Roehl made him a counter offer and he stayed there... about six weeks ago he got a local job hauling Steel in New Castle, DE, didn't like it so about two weeks ago he started hauling Bananas out of the port of Wilmingiton.

As of today he has a total of about 8 mos. experience.

We are from DE so not far from you. The point is get started, get something and get started and keep looking every time you gee. Worked for him.
