Right...I thought "David Mann" was the perfect pseudonym for a four-wheeler posting here on TTR.
Thanks for all of the responses. So I'm hearing that the cost of a motel room might be the same or less than idling all night, plus a shower is included, TV, and room to stretch out and relax. And during a reset, an extended layover, or unexpected repair work, it would be a welcome break from the sleeper.
But getting back to how this ties into Daystops and TA, if you've decided to rent a room, would you ever choose a motel located directly at a truck stop? Years ago, I stayed overnight at the Daystop attached to the TA on I-81 north of Harrisburg. While it was clean, the place was quite basic and did not include a breakfast or any other amenities beyond a bed, TV, and bathroom. Registration was at the counter inside the TA travel store, and if you wanted food, it would be at the same TA restaurant or fast food counter. It strikes me that if you were looking for a break from the routine, you'd want to get away from the TA and stay at a Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, or something similar with a little larger and nicer room, a free breakfast, and maybe some other extras. Provided that the price was in the same neighborhood and they had truck parking, of course.
And if you did consider staying at the TA motel, would the fact that it's a Daystop, Knights Inn, or other national brand make any difference at all?
Truck stop motels? When do drivers ever stay at motels?

Depends on why you're staying out of the truck. Unexpected breakdowns tend to make whatever is available (especially with locality to the repair site) a bit more handy. OTOH, when it's time to get out of the truck for a night it starts in the order of available parking for said truck, and then "a little larger and nicer room, a free breakfast, and maybe some other extras." The other category is when you are going somewhere for being at that "somewhere," say Mardis Gras for instance: Then its find secure parking for the rig, call a taxi, and go have a whole buncha fun!mje Thanks this.
