I'm a noob so I can only give you my 2-cents. I normally float because that way I can just feel the gears (if that makes sense) and on the older trucks I drive the clutch is almost always out of adjustment anyway. But I do drive a lot off road and so I do find that I need the clutch now and then to break torque for a quick shift. I haven't run across a boss yet that has cared whether I clutch or not, they just want me to drive and bring the truck back in one piece.
dbl clutching?

True statement, After you have been doing it for a while, you do not overthink shifting, you just shift the gears and drive the truckTonythetruckerdude Thanks this.

Well you girls have a good day. I am gonna go get in my super ten and get my rocks off all day , shifting clutchless and see if i can wear out that tranmission lol yee hawwwwwwwwwwww

SUPER 10?? I owned a super 10, floating is definitely the easiest way to shift one of those. I loved that transmission, but you cant get one anymore.

wrong super 10 newbie driver, i have driven that tranmission too and hated it... Aways forgetting what gear i was in.... The super ten i am talking about is a super ten dump truck.... It has a drop axel in front of the drivers, that you put down when your loaded it allows me to carry 59000 to 60000 gross on a bobtail truck.... I am driving a dump truck thats how i get my rocks off hahaha...... I pulled 6 loads today all over 60000 for an 11.5 hour day. My knees and hips hurt from all the shifting in town.... Lol

My god I can believe that. Bet the ride dont help matters either does it?

this thing is a hiway queen, its got air-ride, like driving a big boat.... Think old 60's cadillacs , i have my sea legs from driving it all day. This desk is wallering back and forth.... Lol but the truck rides like a dream you can set a cup of coffee on the frame and it will still be there 50 miles later.... I did that last week, was wondering where the hell did my coffee cup go???? 98 WESTERN STAR AND LONG WHEEL BASE , I THINK THE BOSS SAID 290" NOT SURE...
