Looking to purchase a 53' drop deck trailer soon. I will be hauling hay, tractors ,or whatever pays. Cant make up my mind to go steel or aluminum. Also.....makes, I see a lot of Transcraft out and have found a aluminum I like, are they any good? Any feed back would be great!

All depends on what your hauling steel trailer with wood decks last forever. if your going to haul any track equipment wood deck is better to have. Aluminum will save you 1,500 lbs or so if i was on a farm steel is what id run

Combo is best for hauling general freight. Steel/wood is best for track equipment and farm stuff. If I were going to buy a step, I'd go with a Fontaine Combo or Mac Combo

Due to my shippers request ,I just purchased 53' Flat all aluminum MAC with coil pack.I do not haul coils but do haul cable wheels.they are great trailers for the money.I had 2000 year model 48 Benson all aluminum I newer had any problems with it .Aluminum trailers will give you extra payload not that you want heavy loads but it compansate for your extra equipment and when you empty it helps fuel milege.NO RUST,NO PAINT is icing on the cake.

    SHC Thanks this.

I like the , no paint no rust! My last trailer was steel and after one year it looked like crap. They are tough. Probably better resale on a aluminum.

I would go with an all alumnium trailer if you are going to haul mainly hay. As you know, hay tends told hold a lot of moisture which will not only rot out a wood deck, but rust a steel frame very quickly. Spend the extra $$ on the alumnium and you will be happy.

Thanks SHC, I think that's the way to go. Just have to figure out a good folding hay rack system for an aluminum trailer.

You plan on hauling round or square bales.
