hello guys i was watching last night documentary megafactories on Natgeo about production of new mercedes actros in worlds largest truck factory in worth and i remember that i was watching same thing about how they are building mack titan 2months ago , i wanted to ask this than but forgot
production of actros is so advance robots do lot of things (including building cab, welding, painting...)
but mack was so contrast everything was made by hands including painting
i started to laugh when i saw that they still install windshield with rope so production looked like it is 1980s
so question how they manage it since your labor is expensive , and if i remember they told that they produce only in US not in mexico
is mack because of this more expensive than other trucks? how they compensate higher production expenses?
is there any other manufacture which still build trucks on this way?
Question about Mack production

so question is still here....how is mack able to afford to do this on old fashion way and does other manufacturers still do it on that way?Last edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015
Cat sdp Thanks this. -
I know that some Freighliners are made in Mexico. They obviously do that because of cheap labor. Freightliners are junk compared to European trucks. Wish American trucks had the same features as European trucks.
-
What are some of the features they have you would like?
-
some key features of EU trucks
- 24 V electrical system
- disk brakes
- EBS with ESP
- ECAS
- four point cab suspention
- HID available from factory
But really all these things require complicated wiring and may fail if you use truck on bad roads, with road solt, snow.... not for Ukraine ) LOL -
Fit and finish on euro trucks is said to be better ( that's what I've read here)
98989 I priced a Mack , kw and a Pete all were heavy spec day cabs. And they all were in the same price range. So Mack's prices are in line with the others............ They all cost to much but that's another thread....... -
disc brakes are coming, should start appearing on MY '14 from Mack, Volvo, Pete, KW as options, eventually will be standard. HID's are available IIRC on KW and Pete in certain models, you can buy aftermarket HID headlights on kits for certain Freightliners. I know when my boss priced out new daycabs last year, comparison between Mack, Pete and KW, the Mack had more interior room, more comfortable, quieter, and better laid out. They were also about $15,000 cheaper, this may vary depending on the market.

Can't forget about synchronized transmissions.
-
I'm sure they build Mack in Australia as well.
The Mack Quantum was quite European as it had a Renault cab. -
There is really unique truck made like renault kerax. It is Terra pro. It is unusual cabover for construction operations. There is only one this truck in my area. Wth D13 engine (E5, DEF)
