While there may be situations where there is nothing you can do, and no weapon could help, I worry about the situations where I may need a weapon, and not have one. It may be a chiche but it is true, it is better to have a firearm and not need it, then to need one and not have one.
With all the danger out there do you guys keep anything to protect yourselves?

I dont carry a firearm, not that I dont think it is a bad idea, but I just dont have one to take with me. My Black Powder .50 cal is a little long to carry on the belt. What I have in the truck is a 32 oz ball peen hammer for thumping tires. I also have a pick handle for a tire thumpper in rougher areas. But mostly I have my 6' 250 lb self with what I have been told is an imposing and threatening persona. I have had to work in many rough areas and found that if you look like you can handle yourself and dont take crap off any one that they will mostly leave you alone. The few times that has been challenged I have taken care of my self with abrupt and debilitating violence. If you take out the leader of the group before the rest of them can even think of reacting they tend to leave you alone. If you have to go in to the bad areas of town, be sure of your surroundings and dont look like a victim. Looking and acting like a victim can get you hurt and robbed faster than anything else.

Being raised around guns growing up and being tought how to hunt animals and kill them, as well as humans, I just don't feel right without one. My firearms are like my wallet, I NEVER leave without my wallet, why would I leave the house without my firearm? To those that weren't brought up around them, and never were in the Military, I understand. I have no problem with those that choose not to carry, or own a firearm but, have a BIG problem with those that want to choose for ME when, if and where I carry!
There is a booklet you can get from the NRA and I suggest you get it, if your traveling state to state with a firearm, CCW or not. It is called; Traveler's Guide to the Firearms Laws of the Fifty States. Happy hunting,,,ooops, I mean travels...lolProjektf350, W900hp and Brickman Thank this. -
That Travelers Guide is a must have.
I just don't understand why all these laws are focused on taking guns away from law abiding citizens, and yet I have yet to see one piece of legislation that provides a means for taking them away from criminals.
Why are they attacking my freedoms, and not removing the criminals from the population? -
No these a-holes are not only attacking your freedoms, but they are letting the criminals out of jail early citing no money. So now they are back among us , and now you need to be packing more than ever. My solution is give them each a free third eyeball courtsey of the corrections system in each state . Problem solved.....

Yes, even places your familiar with & think to be a very safe place.
I never carried gun, only my tire bumper, & I had it in my hand many times when getting out of my truck, but I never needed it for protection.
I forget just how the ordeal & particulars when, in the 70's, a fellow driving for the same company I did got involved some way with a 4 wheeler on I-10 just west of LA. A 4 wheeler with 4 rough looking thugs in it was bothering him quite bad trying to get him to pull over Y stop. His wife was with him & he had her to hand him his 6 shooter out of the glove box. He held it out the window pointing it towards them. When they saw this they backed off them took the next exit.
Just a short time later 3 cars of CHP's pulled him over. They were not very happy about that event even after both him & wife explained what was happening. I don't remember the cost, but he got quite a high priced ticket. Never did know who called it in, may have been the thugs.SheepDog Thanks this. -
Being a woman I have always thought about my safety. My family members who are police officers gave me several bottles of police strength pepper spray also I was told by other men drivers to use my fire extinguisher if needed. I always said that I want to learn how to shot but I am scared of guns!

get more training before you consider getting a gun.
Mind you, he is using an old west style holster. He would not be able to have that success with a concealed position.

The best way to get over a fear of guns is to get some training with a gun. Guns, handled properly, are no more dangerous than anything else.
As for me, I don't leave my bedroom without my .357mag on my hip. I live in the country, so I not only have to consider two-legged predators but also four-legged predators and threats.
But bear in mind I also live in PA, one of the gun friendliest states in the country. PA is an Open Carry state, meaning I can open carry my gun on my hip in public anywhere in the state (except Philadelphia) without a PA License to Carry Firearms. Since I have my LTCF, I can also carry a loaded sidearm in my vehicle and carry concealed if I so choose, and carry within 500yds. of a school but not within the school grounds themselves.
Part of firearms training is knowing the laws for your state and any state that share reciprocity with your own. For example, my PA LTCF does NOT allow me to carry in Ohio. For that, I would need a Utah non-resident Carry Conceal Weapons permit and to abide by OH gun laws. Since my personal reaction is to simply stay out of OH, I'm not up on OH's law concerning firearms.SheepDog Thanks this.
