I went straight to regional but had some old experience. I would suggest a month or two minimum because regional dispatch doesn't have time to explain stuff they expect you to already know. And they expect you to be quick, which only comes with time.

I switched to regional as soon as they took me off the training dispatchers board about 90 days. I was on Opie's board and told him about 60 days in I would like to go regional.

I went regional after about 3 weeks of getting out of my trainers truck. LB's right about regional dispatch. You have to keep in mind they are very busy keeping all of us rolling and dont have time to hold your hand trying to explain every thing. If you show them your willing to run hard for them and the loads are there, they will keep you moving. I personally like my weekends off but thru the week I run my time out and get as many miles as I can. Going regional is the best thing I ever did. It took me awhile to get used to the fast pace of short hauls but I cant see myself going back OTR. There are some days I'll be hooked to 5 different trailers in a single day and then there will be some where you will only have one stop for the day. The miles are there if your willing to work.
Sometimes a persons priority changes and if I stay a truck driver Millis would be the only company I would ever drive for. I'm like the most of you and did all my research. This place is the very best that I've found. Hope this helps.L.B. Thanks this. -
This is all good info. Guess I should of asked how many of you were rookies when you started with millis and how long before you went to regional. Also how long did it take you guys after asking for regional, that you were finally put on it. I'm sure there's a waiting list to it, even if a short one. Now, I'm sure all of the dispatchers ( otr, regional, training) are all busy people. I realize otr is different from regional, you will alot of times run to more places. When a trainee goes solo otr and his training dispatch thinks he's ready for the "big boy potty", he will still have I'm sure lots of questions still that the normal otr dispatch will be asked. I can't see how regional has less time on their hands than all 3. Training dispatch in my opinion should have less time due to dealing with basically still trainess learning. Unless there is something I'm not seeing. I don't work there yet so I'm only speculating. I don't know exactly how they do it.
I did resummit an application last sunday, got an congrats email from Alice on wednesday I believe, and tried calling yesterday about 4pm. All I got was company answering machine. They must have cut out early for the holiday or didn't work at all.
Happy Easter everybody. -
When I say started with millis, I meant no previous experience.

When I tested out for my own truck Opie asked me then if I wanted OTR or regional. I chose to run OTR for a bit first just to get more comfortable. It's possible to go regional right after you get out your trainers truck. I've even heard of some guys being hired as regional. I'm pretty sure they had experience coming in tho. Currently they really need regional drivers in the Midwest. They put a message out on the Qualcomm a week or so ago.

What's the pay like OTR versus regional?
