how many of you didnt have previous experience though? that makes a big difference. I suppose you could always go back to one or the other if you didnt like it.

I went from law enforcement to trucking and was driving for about a month.
-
Ok, thought of something else after reading on the Swift forum the other day.
Question: #1 Once trainee is finished with their training, what is the standard procedure for getting their truck?
Question: #2 Are there any problems with graduated trainees getting their own trucks based on truck shortages? (This is kinda on the same topic) Is there ever a truck recovery involved by the trainee? What are the in/outs for this?
I still have my CDL active, just lack of experience. So, all I should have to do after the 3 weeks schooling and 3 day orientation is me and trainer drive till my miles are complete. No testing or anything. Unless they want you to do some type of road test before or during road training. -
1. After you test out at a terminal you will get a truck from the terminal you are at or choice of trucks if there are more than one. If none are at the terminal they will get you a ride with another driver to a terminal with a truck.
2. Not that I have heard, unless the empty truck is in the shop for something. Only truck recovery I have heard about is if a driver gets sick on the road or a failed drug test or something and they can't drive it back to the terminal.
Your road test is after you are done with your training one of the school instructors takes you on a drive and then has you backup in the yard. Make sure you can shift, turn, and back. Nothing serious. -
have not heard of to many hav,ing to wait on a truck once they tested out from there trainer you may have to go to a different terminal to pick up your truck although I think they usally try to test ya out at a terminal that has trucks there

So even though if your a trainee and didnt have a CDL prior to coming, trainer had to take you to dmv to take test for license and you pass that, you still have to take company road test to get truck. WOW. I guess they really want to make sure, however, if your state thought you could drive to pass you, why shouldn't you be good to go? I could understand my case. I haven't driven in almost 5 yrs but still have a valid CDL. I have no problem taking the schooling because either way any other company is gonna make me take a refresher that allows one. In other words its gonna cost me anyway, so might as well do it the easiest way and with a good company. Swift said they didn't require a refresher as long as I could pass the road test. Thats swift for ya.
By the way, I called Millis on friday, must have been out for the holiday already. Haven't got a return call yet. They've never called me, I've always had to call them. -
The only time I didn't have to take a company road test, the owner of the company was family. You will ALWAYS have to take a road test. What the state says you can do is irrelevant.
-
Thats interesting since they are the ones licensing you. I will do whatever just seems interesting.
-
They're just making sure that your trainer didn't give you any bad habits, stop at stop signs don't shift around curves or over rail crossings, pretty simple test

When I got my first truck it was a recovery from a truck stop.
