Replace them, you don't want a fire.

It depends on how bad they're oil soaked. Brakleen works good. Even a little oil will dry up with heat from usage.

I have always just cleaned them real good. take them off get a couple cans of break clean and load them up and go to the car wash....high pressure them first than break clean pressure break clean pressure and put them back on.

IMHO , shoes are cheap. Replace them.

if they fairly new, clean them and put them on. -
It depends on how soaked they are. If less than an inch is wet, clean them up. Much more than that and it might pull when you brake, which may or not go away. A drive would be a different story, equal braking on the steer axle is much more important. We've had issues in the past trying to clean them and only replacing 1 side. It's not worth the trouble, if the shoes are too wet, we do both sides on steer.
