So, choose to be away from home for 6-10 months at a time instead of only being gone for 2 weeks?
If your going that route, why not join the marines?

Anything that combined with your cdl would make you a more qualified and valuable employee or maybe your own boss. hydraulics is one however having a CDL allows you to provide services in a lot of different industries

If you read my post you replied to, you would see that im willing to get the away from home stuff done by 30(sooner the better) and with trucking that will never change. i've talked to enough local drivers to know most if not all work 12 hour shifts. Why would i join the marines? knowing how to kill people isnt a good trade to bring back home, im looking to learn a useful trade from the military. thanks but no thanks Professional-TruckerFREEBRD Thanks this.

Ok then, good deal then.

Congratulations on your SMART decisions. Check out the community colleges in that offer vocational training in your area. I would stay away from the military.

I would encourage you to join the military, but I would say to reconsider the branch or even active duty status. I'm looking into joining the Guard to double-down on my retirement. 20 years in the Guard and I can 'retire' from the Guard and trucking at the same time. Plus you can still keep your trucking job in most cases, and if it's a local driving job you can do it and the Guard at the same time.
