Made a real bad mistake on Christmas Eve last year and smoked some pot.Day after Christmas I went back too work and was hit for a test.Needless to say I failed the test and lost my job.I live in the Fort Wayne IN area and need a drug program too get back to work.Does any one have a place in mind that could help me.Been trucking for 28 years and have never failed a drug test before ever...I just about broke,on food stamps and need to get back to work as soon as possible....

wow....not good.....i hate to be the bearer of bad news.....and I COULD BE WRONG....but from what i have read...even after SAP drivers are having a hard time finding work.....
there are lots of members on here tho...maybe someone can point you in the right direction....
HOWEVER....you know there is NO room for that in trucking..... (realize you dont need a lecture)
i dont mean this mean, but let this be a lesson to the folks out there who are thinking of it.....kinda like getting pregnant....ONE time is all it took.......CertifiedSweetie, HwyPrsnr, WV_Daddys_Girl and 4 others Thank this. -
So what was your bad mistake? When you smoke pot knowing you could lose everything and be broke & on food stamps that would seem like a " choice" you made...a "mistake" would be mispelling words...rehab wont help until you dispell the notion using drugs is a mistake..

Some people dig their own grave. You were popped the day after Chrismas..here it is April 2nd...and you're iquiring about help now?

Sounds more like a bad choice opposed to a mistake. Sorry, man but I believe in brutal honesty. 28 years of trucking, you should have known better. You might have luck applying at small "mom and pop" operations. They tend to be more forgiving than the bigger companies. Keep in mind that a lot of people are turning to trucking in this crap economy which gives trucking companies the ability to pick and choose. Lots of people have clean records and they'll be picked first. Hope you learned from your bad choice and find something!

I've heard plenty of people say that they did drug rehab and they still couldn't get back to work

Sorry to hear the bad news,I guess from the sounds of these replys me and you are the only truck drivers who ever smoked.Anyway I would think the company you give most of your life to would have a program option. Good luck keep your head up and dont let all these saints get you down.

i never said i was a saint...however i havent smoked since i started trucking...we all make mistakes....i just told him i didnt know if he would find work......

Good advice from the members so far. Can't really add too much except go to your former employer with "hat in hand" begging for some help. It may work, but in all honesty (I hope that you understand) , your former employer is more than likely gonna have the same take on this as most of the rest of us do. And that is after 28 years there is no excuse , it wasn't a mistake , it was a really , really , bad choice. You knew what the ramifications of a failed drug screen were gonna be , long before you made that choice. Good luck , but its not gonna be easy especially since your test was so recent. Maybe getting a job on a dock somewhere local to you would help , that way you can be close to the industry and after 5 or 6 years maybe 10 you can put yourself back into the driver job market , once you've shown that you are willing to accept your choice and have owned it , then you might get back into a truck.
randal02lee and mje Thank this.
