Volvos do have lots of electrical probs, but my co. buys 1 Pete for every 8 Volvos, mainly cause Volvo cant supply our reqmts! Petes (379 long 1st, now buying shorts) are also liked for resale, but get 1 mpg worse fuel mlg that Volvos or older Centurys with their square nose. I drive CA (L.A. & Oakland) where docks are old and small---made for delivery trucks, not 53'ers or sleeper tractors---prefer Volvo for tight handling and roomy interior. But Pete is a much better 'machine'...:biggrin_2553:

Interesting point. And I was a union member and officer for many years. Course when I started trucking I saw the real world, where I was the only one I was responsible for.Anyway thats another can of worms. We have a large Super Wal Mart in the county, and all of the so called union leaders continually run it down verbally. But the funny thing is they all shop there. I wonder why? Do you suppose they like to save a few bucks on their purchases? Or maybe they are just casing the joint to see if they can close it down.Same thing with Lowes, Home Depot, etc. I live within walking distance of a store where I can buy most things for home improvement. However what I pay for one pipe fitting there I can buy about 4 or 5 at Home Depot. So most of the time I will drive about 4 miles to the Home Depot. I guess thats just good old American intuition, to save a buck. I hate to see the small Mom & Pop stores being squeezed out, but most people are gonna buy where the price is lower. So who is to blame for the big stores, the owners who are making a good buck by selling in volume, or maybe the customers who shop there. WalMart is famous for paying low wages to their employees, but they always have a long line of applicants. Just some of my observations.

    Simple answer to that is...YUP.

I quit pullin a reefer cuz ALL the customers sucked...period. Especially Sav A Lot in Oxford/Anniston, AL. I lived 30 miles from there at one time. &^%$ company gave me a load there every time I came home.

    Wasn't worth it...period.

Tip, you actually have a great point there. Actually, I DID quit a trucking job due to Food Lion as a matter of fact. I absolutely HATE Food Lion and will not buy anything there, I even tell all I know that I will disown them if I see them walking into one, LOL. And, when the company I was working for slapped me in the face offering me $50 to stay there another day. I told them to find me a place to drop the trailer so I could bring their truck back NOW, they did and I said bye-bye real fast.

It's amazing how some custs will treat drivers with disrespect or indifference, not either 'realizing or caring' that they and their families are customers TOO! I too boycott several food stores (grocery loads are the pits) and do my best to 'pass on my bad experiences' (wont say 'bad mouth!'...ha ha) to others!! I think that I heard last year there were some 7-10M drivers out there---thats a big 'customer base,' even if dont include their families!! :yes2557::biggrin_25525:

Yea, that's true...I mean truckers DO have family's and friends as well and, for some reason, they just don't care, they don't think we could hurt them by word of mouth, but word of mouth is a very powerful thing! Problem is, MOST drivers take almost anything and stay silent...apathy is Food Lion's friend.

I dealt with Piggly Wiggly out in Summerville, SC recently. In spite of the fact that I was late due to driving through ATL on 285 w/ a fatal accident on there, I really didn't have to wait that long. I thought it was going to be excruciatingly painful to wait (and spend part of that time listening to a hockey game on XM). Nope. Almost painless (except for the $70 lumper I had to hire, but I'll get reimbursed for that.)

I am so glad to see I am not the only one that despises grocery warehouses!!! It only took me 3 months working for Shaffer to realize I hated it with a passion! Way too much waiting time, precooling trailers, washing them out etc. NO THANKYOU!
