We had a driver in his 70's killed at Owensboro Grain a couple of years ago when a concrete silo collapsed on his truck .

Hmmm... couldn't we run an engine on grain dust if it's so volatile? Just install a mill to grind it up.
379exhd Thanks this. -
Yes that is sad, close to home also.. I think some of these grain elevators need to be better inspected and some of these old ones need leveled. A lot of these grain elevators are getting some age to them and need a lot of work.. It is not fair people get hurt or lose a life like they do before anything gets done about it. It is usually later in the season when we start hearing about accidents like this one...

My friend saw the story on the news last night and it was a private elevator which isn't required to be inspected. Personally I find that to be complete bull! It's a matter of safety every commercial elevator has to be inspected and private elevators should be inspected the same IMO. It's for safety not just for somebody delievering/picking up but also for the owners of the elevator. I just wonder how many people have to be hurt/seriously injured/killed before things start changing and people open their eyes. This is a very sad situation and it should've never happened as far as I'm concerned.

I believe we probably could but the mill would add a lot of weight to grind up the grain to create the dust. However I think a 1000hp monster would be very easy to make our a motor powered by grain dust.

I would say it would take tens of thousands per year before it would become an issue. Look at how many people are killed driving and we're still allowed to drive. I would caution calling in the government for a solution, governments kill more people around the world than industrial accidents or natural disasters combined.

You got a good point there.
