    Have em check the calbration on the truck. Buddy of mine was coming up different in miles and MPGs from QC daily come to find out the truck was calibated for another rear end ratio other than the one he was running/

    I track mine by hand. I dont go by sensortracks. Its never accurate.

    No I don't track it myself. I just take the QC figure and subtract. (.6) since that is what they said will get it in the ball park. Using that you wouldn't be happy though... for the most part I am getting in the high 6 range... 6.7 - 6.9 or so.

    Right now using that method I am showing 1575 miles for the week @ 7.7 so 7.1 using the subtraction. This includes close to 700 miles deadhead, mostly flat or gradual down hill from Denver to Ill and two 40,000 plus loads for the.rest.of the miles.

    I just drive it like they told me to and haven't heard back from them. Going to screw me up when they trade this one and want me to go back to progressive shifting.

    Random questions and tiny rant.. How frequently is it necessary to do a split to make on time? I was under the impression that Stevens frowns on grad fleet drivers doing a split, but its been necessary twice in the past week, and this last one is simply because the shipper wants to hold the truck for 6 hours prior to loading it.
    The reasoning I have gotten makes sense from a corporate standpoint... meaning it makes none whatsoever, and is therefore SOP ...but not so much from a common sense standpoint.

    I know, I know... welcome to trucking.

    Rarely did splits, and only when it benefited me... I would just stay where I was at for the additional 2 hours, then roll... one can always drag their feet getting the invoices, pulling the trailer from the door...

    I think splits are more common now that the Elogs can track your time accurately. Most drivers just don't understand how they work and just don't do them.
    But they're not THAT common.
    I think they turn up more when someone in operations is trying to save a load that was dispatched wrong to begin with.
    Nothing wrong with them if you understand how to use them and often will benefit the driver by allowing them to keep a load rather than be repowered off of it.

    I use splits on a pretty regular basis, did on grad fleet too. There are any number of reasons for it, but often it is to set myself up to get out of a shipper or receiver without burning my 14hr clock. For example I know Walmart is going to take two hours to unload, so if i can set myself up where I arrive close to delivery with a 4 - 6 hr drive, then take an 8, roll in there and take another two while being unloaded, I end up saving two hours on my 14 as those two hours sitting in the dock become part of my 10 hour break.

    There had been maybe two or three occasions where I had to use it to make on time delivery, but it's been rare.

    So, the 21st I start orientation at Maverick. Will be starting $0.42 per mile with weekends off, up to $0.06 per mile per quarter fuel bonus.
