If you are just going to be a company driver, you won't need tax advice until nesxt year. Just save receipt's for thing's you buy to use in the truck. No need to save meal receipt's.
If you plan to go the Fleece/Operator route, you can wait til you get started driving your own rig before finding a tax person.

I wouldn't worry about it until after Feb 1, next year. At least that way you should have any W-2's from your employers.

If it's for the truck and you get reimbursed, turn in the receipt. They'll want it for taxes. If you don't get reimbursed, keep the receipt.

Anyway you do it, make a copy of all receipts and file them.

Put your log sheets in a folder as well. They will be needed for taxes for up to 7 years. The per diem thingymajobber.

I would certainly hope that he thought ahead about keeping some kind of records.

I'm with you roadmedic. Regaurdless which way you go, independent or company, you need to keep records. Aconsultation with a cpa will generally cost you nothing. Shop around like you would a car. See who will provide the most and what costs. Then choose wisely which one. Tax deductions are ghanging quickly exspecially with Obahma care fully kicking in, in the next year. Any deduction for special clothing, unless part of a uniform for instance, can be disallowed. They now say you can use it for personall use. Get advice ahead of time to set up your record keeping either way. Be ahead of the game instead of scrambling at the last minute looking for receipts. I know the news media said 7ooo new IRS agents added, in reality its more like 14000. The government didn't hire all these agents for nothing.

The rule about special clothing has been around as long as I have prepared returns. Like pre 1974

Get some 8x11 manilla envelopes and put everything pertaining to each trip in the envelope as you go. One envelope per trip. Yeah, you'll have 50-100 envelopes at the end of the year, but, you can refer back to each trip when needed. And you won't misplace receipts. When you get by the house, drop off the completed envelopes. Pro # and start date written on the outside of the envelope. File them monthly, easier to refer back to. FYI, I'm old school, you could do all electronic filing if you want, but I like to be able to see the actual receipt and touch it. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over.

I just put the envelope in my door pocket, & drop the receipt in it. Just a little habit I have.
