As some of you know if you read my posts im pretty new at this. I have a general lee radio. I purchased it in january, i told the guy who owns the cb shop i wanna rach out farther i can only reach out about 4-5 miles. so about 3 months ago i had him order me a k40 antenna and a texas star amp i have not received either. So im taking this into my own hands and asking yall what would you recommend. This radio is in my pick up so im limited on room. my radio should be putting out 40-60 watts from what he said. What would you guys recommend me to get and the best place to get it? Im sick of talking to myself in the truck haha. Right now i have a 4.5' francis antenna mounted on my back rack probably 3 feet above the cab. I bought a swr meter i just need to get a jumper piece of coax. Can yall give me a little insight of tuneing it in? last i knew i had a 1.1 match if i remember right. I would greatly appreciate any help Thank you!

That amp you have listed in your link would be a waste of time unless you wanted to use it to drive a 4 pill amp like a Texas Star 500 or just wanted to be a tad above stock in power on a typical 4 watt CB (think Cobra 29), which is sort of where your General Lee is now.

First things first, you said you have a pick up so you don't have the same height restrictions as a semi....so why limit yourself to that 4.5 ft antenna? Why not get a Wilson 1000 and put it dead center of the roof? That oughta get you heard a little further.....or better yet, invest in a 102 steel whip.....yeah it'll be tall but buddy if you won't have one heck of a talker. You should have a good 10 miles at least with a 102 whip and no amp with that General Lee. Remember, height is might when it comes to CB antennas.

Then if you still want an amp, look into maybe a Texas Star 250....or a 350...or a 500....or if you want to go cheap, look at a Palomar 2 pill. But the bottom line is without a better antenna than the 4.5 fiberglass whip you have now, you're really not getting the most or the best out of your set up.

I agree with Turbo-T the amp you listed is a good one but not for the radio you have. And I would use a wilson 5000 myself I have one on my pickup and I have talked 80 miles with a Dave made doing about 600 put a good 350 should give you excellent range and by the way that wilson I was using was a magnet mount type never had a problem with them..

The Wilson mag mount can handle way more power than you will be using.
I have one dead center of the roof of my Tahoe and my Silverado...Both talk very well.
The 102 whip is the other option.

The Wilson 1000 mag mount,62 inch whip is rated for 3000 watts.

Roof mount would be better, mag mounts are good in a pinch.

Yea,depends if you are willing to drill the roof.

I have talked DX on the Wilson mag mounts though.....they do really good and with about 100 watts 20 miles+ no problem.
