Doesn't matter if you're blocked in or not. Moving a vehicle without authorization is against the law. In Illinois, it's a class A misdemeanor first offense (up to 1 year/$2500 fine), class 4 felony for repeat offenders (1-3 years/$25,000 fine).

Excuses are nothing more than an admission of guilt with an attempt to justify the behavior. It wasn't illegal to block you in...only inconsiderate. Your excuse wouldn't change the fact that you broke the law.

One thing to keep in mind, if you hook to someones trailer and they catch you. Are you jacking the trailer? You may not be but people have been shot for less and beaten badly for a mistake in common sense. Best thing to do if you cannot locate anyone is call the carrier if a name is on the trailer, if not try and find them then if you are unable to do so call the local police.

Well, the hotel manager was not amused that he parked in their lot and didn't at least poke his head in the door and ask if it was OK. He had called for a tow, but Landstar showed up and moved before the wrecker showed up.

The Pilot is across the street (and a shorter walk to the buffet from where he parked) but always full, walmart is next to the buffet with 12' high gates and an array of 'no overnight truck parking' signs to keep trucks from parking there. Heck, he should have just parked at the fuel island at Pilot.

Pedigree, unless the cop is your brother-in-law, he is going to be mighty po'd when the other driver's trailer is right there. That set in motion statute is about making an unattended vehicle roll away, not the scenario you present.

I think this thread needs a reminder:
