20% heck shouldnt be hard when 30 to 40% trucks you see on ontario roads have visible problems but never go through but around scales maybe if they patrolled roads near scales they could quit nitpicking honest drivers

Where do you get your facts? I have to say, 30 to 40% seems like a stab in the dark. I wouldn't say trucks in Ontario are in any worse shape than any other jurisdiction. When I ran the southern U.S., I thought there were a high number of trucks that looked "shady", but that is only my opinion, not fact.

They've been patrolling roads around scales since long before you (or I) were born. I suspect a great amount of your Ontario experience would include Hwy 11. The simple solution would be to ban the biggest perps. For example, some (but not all) of Trans-X', Bison, H&R's lesser qualified steering wheel holders, as well as almost everyone with either Brampton ON or Surrey BC as their domicile. That would help out. A lot.
As to PB's link, I'm not surprised in the least, considering that the FIBerals have turned Ontario into a have-not province. And hey, they have to try and recoup the 600+ million they lost in the gas plant coverup, and maybe they can address the white elephant known as Hydro One when they're at it too.

??? By driver "shortage" Are you suggesting that this article is being deceptive? Not that I would be surprised at all but I'm considering OTR/long haul as a career change. I keep coming across mixed signals here as to whether driving truck for a living is a solid career choice or not. I don't want to get myself into a situation where I love what I do but the work isn't there or they pay is bunk.

There is no driver shortage, however, there is a terrible shortage of good paying driving jobs.
I attended a trucking convention in Banff in 2005 when His Excellency David Bradley said, "We have a shortage of 52,000 trucks drivers in Canada today, what can we do about it?" I raised my hand, stood up and said, "Raised the wages and watch SOME of the 210,000 that hold a CDL but no longer driver will come back and drive for a living."JayTee, thegypsylife, Speedloader and 2 others Thank this. -

I all sincerity, I got a lot of applause from about the 1500 in attendance. And Mrs. McMillan from Medicine Hat who was in the audience and was giver an award for the number of years in business responded with, "He's right you know, our company paying fair wages that match Teamsters scale and our turnover is less than 10%. We have employees retiring every year and they have to be replaced you know and that's a big part of our turnover." She got a big applause.
THEY'VE been in business 63 years now.

We had a retirement party a few years back for two guys. My partner retired with 41 years and the other guy had 42 in.
