Hey everyone,
Have a 2000 Volvo 770 with a 600 ISX. A couple of weekends ago I put all new brakes and drums on the truck and ever since then the truck has been vibrating when coming to a stop. I took all the tires and drums off and knocked the aluminum build up on the hubs hoping the drums would sit even and fix the problem. After doing this, the truck still shakes when braking. Any suggestions out there? When the tires and drums were off I also noticed that the shoes were only hitting the drum with about 50% of the shoe. Thanks!

Have the shoes arched to fit the drum. I'd have the drums checked for being in spec to. One or two might be out of round.

Torque the wheel nuts , use a torque bar, tighten the opposites, say start at the top nut the the bottom one etc, your drums can warp if tightened unevenly ! Torquing them should solve the problem, I had that very same problem with a truck a few years backHeavyd Thanks this.

Yep, very true. I would also like to add to torque the wheel with the brakes released too. With the brakes applied can cause slight bell-mouthing of the drums which can lead to issues like this. (Just use wheel chocks to hold the truck while torquing.)Scania man Thanks this.

Hi guys,
It turned out to be the wrong set of shoes on the one wheel which caused it to buck when trying to stop. Thanks for the answers!Scania man, Heavyd, silver dollar and 2 others Thank this. -
Thanks for the update, its good to hear what the problem and solution turned out to be and add to our hands-on knowledge base.
