i thought there was a thread on here but nothing popped up for me.

    without explaining my reasons.

i was thinking of renting a 48 flat as it's $70 PER WEEK cheaper then the 53 step. but since i have no access to loadboards.

i was wondering if you all would be so kind enough as to point me where the money would be. (freight, rates)

    and i'll be 48 states.

i don't want to start with a flat and wishing i had a step. but i don't want to be spending $70 more a week on trailer rental if a flat will work out.

let's keep the answers strictly to the thread please and not be throwing in your oddball comments otherwise. i'm not getting into a lengthy discussion when you don't know my reasons. :biggrin_25522:

Personally Snowwy, I prefer the step, easier to haul the taller loads without having to permit, also If you are needing a flat you can always get stacking uprights for a step.

they both have their little worlds that you can cross over with.

    Just like van/reefers.

You want one, but have the other...

I prefer a flat to a step. Much more freight for a flat EVERYWHERE you go in the lower 48. Steps are great, but rates are on-par if not sometimes less than a flat. Also, roll-on fright for a step pays like crap because everyone wants the easy, gravy loads, and take them for under $2 mile now (usually $1.75 at most)..... and in your area of the country, a flat will have more work.

I have only pulled my stepdeck once in the last 3 months, flats are always gravy loads pipe, steel beams, flat plate,or pallets most only use 4ft drops. I've always pulled a step but I'm loving not tarping 10ft tall loads, also I'm getting better fuel economy. My stepdeck is 3,600lbs heavier than my flat

I say flat ... now if in six months you know that you can have solid work for a step than do it ... but right now just running general 48, you want to be as versitle as possible

I tried replying to the PM massage you sent me but it wouldn't let me send it to you cuz your inbox was full or something like that just like everyone else said its a personal preference on flat or step both can haul things that the other can't but with my step sometimes I have problems finding stepdeck freight though my friends that haul flatbed seem to hardly ever have any problems when it comes to finding loads

    SHC Thanks this.
