It isn't a law that you have to use them. But it is that you carry them. Cali. For instance will turn you around if you don't have them and try to go over dinner pass. Oregon will give you a ticket if you are checked and don't have them. My chains stay on the truck year around the whole set is only 180 pounds. I haven't thrown chains since I stopped logging in Idaho a few years back. I normally can't run in bad weather any way. My permit lets me sit and watch the others go play.
Werner doesn't allow drivers to carry chains?

how do any drivers make any money by not chaining? I run so mostly west coast and have to carry them from basically october through april 30th. Ive never stopped because of the chain law... you throw iron and you keep going thats just the way it is. Throwing iron is not hard and honestly its the best traction you will ever have and considering your only running maybe up to 25 while chained up its honestly a nice relaxing ride. I think the big thing about chaining is the face that everyone gets themselves scared of actually doing it.

If u need chains u shouldnt be on road anyway. I chained up last winter n it was a big waste of time.
