Yep now is the time to apply if they are hiring in the concrete world..they rarely hire outside of march through June. Just give them a buzz and see if they are taking apps. Good luck. Trust me your gonna want to live near a plant that commute across the city every day will be rough. Sometime you don't get off work till 10pm then have to be back by day break.

I have a question about concrete for you... or, more specifically, union construction work...
How do you get into union construction work? I never see ads on the job boards. Do you have to join the union, and then look for work? Do they give you a list of employers after you join?
This past year, I've been pulling double bottom dumps doing levee and road work, and pulling bulk cement pneumatic tankers supplying batch plants. Non-union. I'd love to get into a class B construction truck like a cement mixer or water truck. Again, I never see ads posted for these positions. Any advice? -
Haven't found any construction workers union.. I went to ibew local 9 intermation brotherhood of electrical workers...I'm gona search around ok the Internet n look for any union for construction laborers. If I have any luck ill keep u posted...basically u have to,for these other unions, u fill out an application in person, they look it over, off they call u, u do on the job traing with one night of school (or whatever the job requires) after abt 1000 hrs the worker gets initiated into the union (theory whatever process) then he starts paying his union dues and the benefits kick in... I think one needs connection to get in a union because someone u kno in the union can write u a sponsorship letter ( I'm guessing its the same thing As a recommendation letter)

I think different trades do it different ways. I applied at actual company and got in that way.
-
In a union company?
-
OTR is hell and crap money. Stick with cement.
-
Any company that gets state money to do large projects like building roads and such hires union workers...generally, so if your qualified and they want you to work for them they will get you signed up with the local union hall.
