Hey guys, I have a 98 cabover with the same dash as the FLD 120 n Classic. I was rumblin down the road bobtailingthis mornin at 60 mph n hit a 10 mile rough patch of road and I noticed my speedo had dropped to 25. I pulled over n unscrewed the panel to check the plug on the speedo but still readin 25 mph. Any ideas??

Make sure the yoke nut on the trans is tight.
-
How would that affect the speedo reading?
-
Hmmm...weird! I pulled over again n gave what I thought was the sensor a wiggle (right at the front of the bell housing on the bottom) and it was pretty solid. Got rollin again n now it works normal again
-
Yoke nut loose lets rotor ring spin causes erratic movement.
-
You said speedo....do you mean tachometer instead? It reads the flywheel. Could be bad, or grease and metal debris on the tip.
-
Tach works good...but the speedo has now dropped back to 25 again. Still cruisin at 60. Its am Eaton 18 spd...where would the speedo sensor be?
-
On the back of the transmission. At the yoke. Depends on how old it is. The tip of the sensor could be internal or external. If external, check for trash and debris between tip and rotor. Make sure yoke nut it tight....push up and down on driveline. Should have no play. Take a long tip flat head and try to spin the rotor....must be tight.

Ok...I appreciate yer help!! Its been normal for the last couple hrs niw but when I stop again I will take a look. Last time I stopped I looked at the tranny yoke n it didnt look like it had moved but I will check it out more thoroughly. Thanks again!!

On the old fld's you can also swap the speedo and tach heads. Hook the tach up to the speedo plug and speedo up to tach plug. So then when you are driving and tahc head drops you know the speedo head is good. But if the speedo head drops out when in the tach plug. You have a bad speedo head.
