Ok so I have been otr for a little over a year now and been wanting to go local. A long time family friend offered me a job hauling a tanker picking up milk from farms and taking it to mayfield. About a 200 mile round trip and 5 days a week. Hes offering to pay me 1400 every two weeks before taxes. I'm only 23 and don't have a lot of bills but the money would be less than I'm making some weeks. Not sure to take it or.not. What do yall think?

The week that you're not making at least what this local job pays, are the checks alot lower then $700.00 every week?Kind of sounds like you don't wanna take this job.If not then stay where you're at.You'll find may jobs that pays more then what this local job pays.

I get the feeling that alot more is involved than just driving. What else do you have to do?

    Big Don Thanks this.

Yeah I average 650. Week after taxes now...I do want the job because I know he will be really laid back and ill be home by 1400 every day..and yes it is more than just driving..I'd have to test the milk and some other small stuff but for the most part it seems pretty gravy

This says it all right there. Youre a family friend so I would guess hes going to think he can get a little bit more out of you while you think hes going to be really laid back. Personally I say dont work for family, friends or family friends because more often than not it ruins relationships.

This right here. I had a buddy who bought some trucks and trailers and was hauling locally...he wanted me to drive for him and pay a decent wage , cool I went with it. Hes laidback and a buddy , cant be to bad right? He wanted us to bust down tires , do truck maintenance , mechanic work , things of that nature when we werent running or kinda slow...for free. I talked to him about it and he told me his mind in a snotty type of way like he was doing me a favor...I told him some other things that the site doesnt allow...ruined a friendship over it.

doing that mechanic and tire work is part of being a driver , learning all you can to be the best , some day you'll thank him for the education he gave ya that saved your butt too...... not all outfits have you do that work, but those guys are not truck drivers just steering wheel holders......You could take a chimp from the San Diego zoo and train him to be a steering wheel holder , it takes one hell of alot more to be a truck driver full fledged.

I wouldn't work for family/friends unless I had a stake in the profits.
