Actually ........ REAL men drink shine .... pure shine ..... the best comes from Cape Breton, Kentucky, and Maine. I know. I used to be a REAL man before I rotted out my internal organs ..... those that are left, like my liver, are pickled, and will likely be around for further study 5000 years from now !!

Well I'll call it as I see it. My own opinion and May be wrong but here goes. I've read this whole thread and truth be told it would be hard to live with all the uncertainty that these companies bring. Unexpected layoffs base + bonus. Man how could you budget your life around that. Sanjel, Trican not the end all be all in the patch. Everyone failed to mention the gravel, fluid, pickers, vac, pressure, flushby, combo, steamers, equipment hauling and the list goes on.. I know guys operating all these types of units making great money who are not working the slave shifts. So you can make the money and have a life too. I work for an outfit with an 8 on 6 off home overnight. Made 120k last year. It is a daily 3 hour commute but home cooking and my own bed is worth it and a company truck to boot. Guys who don't live close have camp. Needless to say the turnover rate is about 1%. Just saying that there is more than fraccing out there.

 

Yes but other than vac trucks, it's hard to get those positions you speak of unless you have experience. Well servicing companies will take green guys on and train them, hell they will even help you get your class 1 licence.

If you know of a company that's looking to help someone get their picker ticket, please let me know. Been looking and applying for well over a year now.

 

Guess your right. Pickers are a tough nut to crack. May want to try start as a swamper and hopefully get the training as you go. Entrec, Barden, B&R Eckels all run pickers try them and state your intentions. You never know. Good luck in your search.

You must be making a really good rate per hour and have a completely non typical oil patch job with consistently good hours year round.

That is as rare as hen's teeth in the oil patch....

and that is what I was asking about in my other thread.

Had a chance to speak with a friend of a friend who is working the lease and road construction end of the business the other night. Never would have thought about before, he seems real happy, gets treated well and has year round work.

Guys like me who may be new to the patch side of driving jobs count in hearing from you experienced patch guys to learn what is out there.
