So, I suppose it would depend on the mood of the DOT officer or maybe even a judge as to just how hard you get hit for one.

Either way, rather ridiculous to put one in your truck when they are not allowed. Why invite trouble? Why do you need one anyway.

Why have one? Same reason as a CB, except few people actually communicate anything useful on those. It's nice to know when you're in (or near) the officer's crosshairs. It provides a useful heads-up in case you're zoning a little bit and leaning harder than necessary on the loud pedal. Now, to get a properly functional one, you're gonna spend some money, and you're not gonna see it in a truck stop electronics case.

Of course, thanks to some imbecile somewhere, we can't. Now it's a felony to have a device alerting you that you're on the receiving end of a radar or laser lock.

I ran with one for years when I was running california.....VERY helpful in that state! I don't run that state anymore, nor do I need to run the way I used to have to run to make a living, so.......no more detector.

Here in Cali is not uncommon on the 5 we get convoys of 5 or 6 trucks two or even four radars runnin doing 65 /70. Plus cb on 7 we help each other out. Iv heard lots of our American colleages ask for the 411 on 7 which is cool we help whoever man most of us speak english man. But they are illegal and I heard Leos got a new radar system which ours won't pick up so don't trust them blindly.

Tell me about your scanner. Does your CB interfer with it? Do you run it all the time?

Ok, so were not supposed to have one in the truck. And your loaded kind of heavy and your running the speed limit, maybe 55 mph and sitting at the bottom of a steep hill maybe even hiding in the dark, or behind something the police are preying on you picking up speed coming off that hill. So your on the brakes and it creeps up to maybe 63 mph. Most of the time I'm one of the slowest truck drivers on the road just because I don't want to drive fast, but the police do like to sit in places to bank on tickets given out.
