So I have the option of either running with Prime or Western Express. As far as the salesmanship from both companies, they both seem to be around what I'm looking for. So my question to all you senior drivers, is what's the true atmosphere for either of these companies? I won't be signing a contract w/either so I'm not asking for that aspect. Just whether their equipment is any good, their driver respect or lack there of if that's the case. Their true home time policy and how they are with that, whether they do actually allow inverters or not. Lease purchase programs And of course any other driver pertinent information they fail to let you know up front. Things of that nature. Any insight on either company would be greatly appreciated.
Decisions Decisions Prime or Western Express???

Never been with either but def. Prime they have nice equipment more divisions more opportunity also have lease. Western has a terrible reputation. Nuff said

I started with prime last year, I've been pretty happy with them. As far as training companies go, I believe they are one of the highest paying. Starting pay for company solo drivers is I think 41cpm.
Prime has fairly new equipment. They keep their tractors 3 years and trailers for 6. Their largest fleet is refrigerated and company drivers in that division are assigned lightweight trucks. The lightweight is basically a mid-roof truck without the closet space of a larger truck. All of the trucks have APU's and Cobra 1500W inverters.
As far as hometime goes for company drivers, you get one day off for every week you work. They also won't let/don't like you to take off more than 4 days at a time. There's a whole prime section on TTR that is very active and has a lot of good info. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/prime/Jas216 Thanks this. -
either one is going to rape you
you have to decide whether you like sandpaper or not
i believe the general consensus between the two would be prime over western express,
the owner of western cares more about overpriced planes than his driverslosttrucker and Jas216 Thank this. -
Thank You all for your insight, I really do appreciate it!!!!!!

My advice and exp. On prime -i leased a truck there in 07 after i sold my truck for high retail to someone that just had to have it in okc.. I paid it off and cramed $32k cash in my pocket.. So i got the brain storm "hey i will go to prime,at least its no forced dispatch " lol i made $1800 my first wk;and it was some excuse with a log or bill of lading to.get paid after that. I cleaned the truck out after 5wks..never saw another dime-but i did see letters where someone else was runnind the truck like i was making$ . Had to get it cleared thru the i.r.s. Also... If western or prime is your only choice--i would not advise l/purchase from prime... And it is forced dispatch from what i saw.. I would keep looking around if it was me.

And one more thing - . Companies like western,landair,u.s.exp.etc here in tn have a low number of drivers that are local to the area that stays. That should tell u something
