After reading your entire chronicle I am definately glad I never signed on with Swift! I am amazed at your positive attitude the whole time you have been filling us in. It seems like you had all kinds of speed bumps to slow you down but yet you managed to keep at it. Great Job.
I think you should wait and do your time with Swift before you decide to jump ship. You finally made it yet you are already looking at other companies? Come on man you just started and should at least do the agreed upon time with the company.
Keep the positive attitude and you will do well.Marky84 Thanks this. -
Well I ended up quitting Swift today, they refused to replace the steer tires on my truck. When I got my truck I wanted them replaced, they said the tires didnt need to be replace per DOT standards, and when it hit the wall they would replace them. It has now hit the wall and they still wont replace them, and now the other tire on the driver side is starting to do the same. There was so many things wrong with the truck, they refused to fix them. On top of that I was getting $500 per week and last week got no paycheck and this week got $63, they are taking 215 out per week for school fee's and after my benefits, and taxes, i get practically nothing. Cant live off of that. I had to leave. I didnt want to jump ship, but how can you pay bills on no, or barely any paycheck. At this rate, I wont have a home to come back to. If i didn't do something now, I would have got evicted. I tried to wait, but I cant, things are just getting worse.
Up until the point I got my CDL training and Swift was great, I had no problems, training was great, but it took way too long. If you have the money, got to a Tech college or Roehl or millis. It all went down hill when I started OTR training. Everything took forever, and when I got my truck, the truck had so many things wrong with it, it wasn't clean, and like I said above the tires were disgraceful, and dangerous. I cannot risk my CDL for Swift being stupid and cheap. -
This concludes chronicles of a swift trainee...look for Chronicles Part 2 US Express

You think you're the only one not getting a "decent" paycheck the first few weeks out on your own? They purposely don't oveoad you with loads when you first go out, and I even told you the truck will have a lot of problems. What gets fixed or not is up to the company, but what's stopping you from calling breakdown and saying you have two bad tires? Or even slashing them yourself and say you came out of the truck stop and it was like that? My truck was absolutely filthy when I got it and it STILL has animal guts on it from two months ago when the last guy who had it hit a deer. I don't have the money to go to the truck wash because I am catching up on 7 months of bills that couldnt be paid due to lack of work. In the end its THEIR truck. You just drive it. If you wanted something perfect, you should have bought your own.
Why were they taking out $215/wk for school? Was there a signed contract for that amount? If so, deal with it. You signed on that dotted line. Did you need benefits "right now" or could you have waited a few more months when renewal comes around? There are way too many variables here.
I recommend you call back and ask for your job back and see about a dedicated account they can find for you. I've been out two months now and am starting a target run in two weeks that pays $0.43/mile. Worlds better than the starting $0.25/mi, plus stop pay and average mileage per week about 2,500-3,300. Also remember, this past month was the most common week for spring vacation. I sat in California for 5 days without a load, got a short run, then sat for another 3. It happens. There will be some weeks when you drive 60 of your 70 hours in 5 days, and some weeks when you run on a recap non-stop. Fact of the matter is, you were ignorant to the fact that things are rough at the start and its all about how to talk to people. If your DM can't (or won't) help you, you call the fleet manager. If they can't (or won't) help you, you call the terminal manager. If they can't (or won't) help you, you call Phoenix. Nobody likes having Phoenix called upon them. Things get fixed real quick when Phoenix gets involved.dptrucker and losttrucker Thank this. -
Let me get this right; you are now on your 3rd job??
You were kicked out of CR England which must be really hard to do, I mean if you were considered a bad driver by Cr England standards
There is more to that story..............
Then You blame Swift for taking so long on you completing training, only one problem with that!! You took MORE hometime then a driver who already has his own truck!! I quit counting after 26 some DAYS home since Feb 1.
You posted this just 2 weeks agoYou also keep saying something about this "fiance" person who cant work for whatever medical reasons BUT later sayLook there are people who work with MAJOR disabilities and if she is even thinking of getting a CDL then there is a job somewhere she can do!!
The truth is you dont want her to work, you would rather be broke and struggle just to keep her at your side........
Who are you to say the tires are bad?? I wasted my time and read the last 100 vehicle violations for Swift and NOT ONE was for tires on a tractor!! ZERO!!
I already know how it went down: Your fiance wants to ride with you and yall two have a pet so to keep fiance happy and to keep from paying back Swift the money for the school you quit. You complain about the paychecks but you only gave it 2 weeks....2 WEEKS. I will bet money you also were taking the MAX amount of advances for that long time of 2 WEEKS!!
Face it, you used Swift to get your CDL and complaining about paying back the money for school so you jumped ship. People like you are why companies treat new guys like crap!
Now, your gonna run to US Express.....3rd bottom feeder in what a year?? I wonder how long this will last?? I usually get mad at companies for sending people home during orientation, and US Express is known for that, BUT in this situation it'd be
Im gonna post this in BOTH of your threads so someone new thinking of going to work at Swift or Us Express has a little hint of what kind of person the info came from!
Your already a job hopper with NO EXPERIENCE!!
PS almost every state has some type of program, vocational rehabilitation, or some type of training for people who are medically unable to work........ -
US Express ??
I foresee a rather short career the way things are going.
Join the greyhound frequent rider program, you'll do well.losttrucker Thanks this.
