Yes, but you were very lucky to get the local job with only 4 months OTR, weren't you? My plan is to go local eventually, but right now I'm enjoying OTR. So when I see all of the advertisements for local, and all say "1 year minimum OTR" I say to myself "no problem." Getting a local job with only 4 months OTR is hitting the mother load, for sure.

This is true giggles. However I just got in an argument with a 33 year veteran over a log book. There are always exceptions. I was doing our ifta yesterday and the idiot logged 1.75 hours driving, and had 0 miles. His fix was put a 9 in front of the 0. I have to say his logs are neater than mine his hand writings better. But when you roll into a stop at 7:55 am on paper common sense tells you to round up to 8 am. His mistakes (stupid ones that are common sense) are going to get our company in a whole lot of trouble. My opinion no matter how many years you got driving if you want to be on paper but can't fill out a paper log YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS DRIVING A TRUCK! We left at 6:45pm. last night got to st Joe at 9:15 redid our books so we could unload at 7 am and he started his day at 6:45 am god forgive me but how stupid can you be? He still ended up coping mine after everything and then had the odasity to argue about the last 7 and 8 days on the recap. You reset you have 70 available and you have an HOS book in your tractor instead of reading crap that has no immediate effect right now read the HOS manual so you can log!..sorry been a frustrating day ran over with. Not all old timers are like that but sometimes veterans shouldn't be training all my notes he gave me on logging went through the shredder.

 

That's not even worst case scenario. At Werner, once you're solo, you're eligible to become a trainer after THREE MONTHS employment as a qualified driver.

 

is there actually a law against this?

I'm not arguing, I'm just curious as to what they're doing that's against the law. As far as I knew, Werner or any other company could simply toss the keys to a fresh CDL holder and walk away. I thought all that was needed .. by law .. is a valid CDL, regardless of whether the CDL holder went to a school or rented a truck and passed the test. If an employee has a CDL, isn't company training simply about CYA (on the company's part) and insurance company requirements?

Essentially, all the company and gov really care about is that you signed multiple pages stating that you understand everything in the FMCSA and that you hold a valid CDL. The rest is about CYA and insurance. At least that's the impression I get.

 

There's a Werner driver that's a youtuber and wants to be trainer so badly with only 3 months exp supposedly hes already approved and soon will have a student..

 

It's not just the trucking industry where this happens, you will find it anywhere where there is a high turn over. I worked for the Government for many years, very high turn over in my agency. Same problem, rookies training rookies....

 

The bottom feeders will do just about anything to save a buck. These dual greenhorn dream teams are a danger to the motoring public. But hey as long as Werner, US Xpress CEOs are making money who cares?
