who said it was a desk job? Had nothing to do with a desk, it dealt with other peoples lives! Just like driving a truck, had a lot of peoples lives in our hands!!!!!

trucking is not the only industry out there that has a high turn over rate that "can" be a danger to the public!

and then these corporations influence the law makers, and they make it legal/illegal as they can sway
but to answer your question, YES it is against the law for a trainer to log his teaching time as off-duty, and then drive a full 11 hrs afterwards, to the point he only gets a few hours sleep a day and to add insult to injury, Werner is running them as a team when the student is not qualified to drive "solo"
now, if after some time the student is sufficiently skilled to operate the vehicle on his own, then he is no longer waking his trainer up but allowing him to sleep the full time to get the needed rest -
This is why most new drivers are gone within 2 years. They don't stay in the industry. They start with these garbage companies, get burnt out on making no money, and leave. I give most guys 2.5 years tops. Most are gone by then.

Im not saying any of this is right, but Im pretty sure that Werner is going far beyond what is legally required -- even if it is only for their own monetary benefit. The only risk they're taking is if an accident happened and the trainer could prove that Werner somehow forced him/her to do what he/she did. Werner, like any other company, would have a stack of signed documents showing that the drivers acknowledged the rules. -

Ive done the trainer gig at a few companies. Werner was one of them. The rule 4 years ago was this. You have to log observation of your student either 10 or 20 hours in the first 75 hours of training (I think it was only 10) But here is the kicker, it doesn't even have to be the first 10 just any 10 in the first 75 of his training. During that first 75 the student isn't allowed to drive from midnight til 0600, so If youre going to team it itll be the trainer running nights for the first half (probably after logging off duty and still observing 12ish hours if hes smart and doesn't want to die) During the second half of training you have to observe another 10 hours at any time before the student is finished with his 150 behind the wheel hours. They pushed teaming, and you literally had to if you were going to make a check you could live with.
As far as the rules on the truck.... there aren't any other than the ones you make. My rules were if you feel tired, or nervous or uncomfortable in anyway stop the ###### truck. Id rather run it myself illegal than let some student get me killed legally. and yes you can cheat the #### out of e-logs. (And not just at Werner either)
I not longer train BTW just too ###### risky and to be honest I prefer to run legal and not drive like a crazy person even though I was pretty good at it LMAO.AndrewMemphis Thanks this. -
Bottom line, rookies should not be training rookies. 5 years should be the minimum for trainer experience.
AndrewMemphis, hellbilly and The Challenger Thank this.
